From The Alpaca Yarn Company come these sets of comparable yarns, chosen to work beautifully together.
Each braid is a combination of Halo and Mariquita that are exquisitely hand dyed to complement each other perfectly.
One gets 50g of Halo, (514 yards) and 100g of Mariquita (400 yds) for a total of 914 yards/ 150g.
Halo (78% Brushed Suri / 22% Nylon) is a lace weight brushed Suri Alpaca. While it looks like mohair, it has an amazing softness with none of the itchy-ness that you might find in mohair.
Not only could it be used as a lace weight yarn but as it has the furry-type fibers, it expands beautifully to work well as fingering weight.
Mariquita is a luxurious blend of 50% baby alpaca and 50% tencel. It has a subtle shine and a beautiful drape.
We have a very small supply of each of the following:
1. Blood Moon combines a Mariquita in solid black with Halo in a variegated blend of reds and violets. Quite dramatic indeed!
2. Red Queen has a Mariquita in a solid strawberry red and a Halo in a variegated beauty that mixes reds with violets and some golds. Lovely!
3. Blue Ridge showcases a shiny medium gray Mariquita with a Halo in blues, aquas, and purples. Yum!
BTW, we had put together a kit a few weeks ago using one braid of Kindred Spirits with one additional skein of fingering weight yarn to make Ambah's lovely Audra Wrap.
