I have three sons and a husband so that's four males (not counting my cat) to knit for. So great designs that they would actually wear, using yarn colors that would appeal, and that wouldn't bore me to tears is a constant search.
I found this lovely design by Sara Huntington Burch called Dialogue of the Wind and Waves. And started to knit it with a great yarn set. And I am so pleased, I want to share.
First of all, get your patterns directly from the designers Ravelry page. What we have here is simply the yarn set.
Here is how Sara describes this:
“Dialogue of the wind and waves” is the subtitle that composer Claude Debussy gave his symphonic tone poem, La Mer.
Swirling short rows and a wave-like textured stitch evoke the stormy sea in this scarf and hat set.
Knit in fingering weight yarn, this set is perfect for spring or fall days when you want a hat and scarf to keep away the chill. Also perfect for bundling up against those cool sea breezes!
The Yarn and Colorways
We put together different yarn and colors than Sara used in her original. The top photos shows Sara's original scarf on the left and my work-in-progress WIP) on the right.
Here are the yarns we put together for this kit:
One of our yarns is the new fingering weight/ sport weight wool blend from Louisa Harding called Luci. A plied yarn of 41% Virgin Wool, 41% Acrylic, 18% Viscose, each pre-wound ball has 349 yards/ 100g. The colors change gradually, each ply with its own long color run.
The colorway we offer for this kit is called Borealis and is, to my eye, a lovely mix of deep brown, medium brown, gray, maroon and red.
The second yarn we chose for each set is from Kelbourne Woolens, their Andorra. Each skein is 60% Merino Wool/ 20% Highland Wool/ 20% Mohair, with 185 yards (169m) per 50g skein.
We chose the Holly Red, a true red that sings with the reds in the Borealis.
The photos of my WIP are there to show you how these colors come together in this design.
Each kit consists of one Borealis and two Holly Red skeins, which should give you enough for the full hat-and-scarf set.
