Lily Go is an awesome designer. She is currently offering what promises to be a most beautiful beaded cowl design as a MKAL (Mystery Knit Along).
The pattern can be purchased on her Ravelry page. You will also find more data there about the MKAL. What we have set up here is simply kits of yarn plus beads.
The MKAL aspect is over so you can see the final design in the first photo on this page.
Starsight is a stunning cowl with a bold textural lace pattern sprinkled with beads. It looks good in any weight of yarn. This cowl is worked in the round on a circular needle and requires no seaming or grafting. You can choose to knit with or without beads.
Perfect gift for your love one or you can keep it for yourself.
Pattern includes charts and row by row written directions. If you would like to add beads to your cowl, instructions are included as to where to place the beads.
Yarn and Colorways
Unfortunately, with the pandemic raging around the globe, Lily's unable to import the yarn she normally offers as kits for her designs. So with her permission I have put together some lovely yarns and beads that will allow you to knit along with her.
Please note that the MKAL starts on December 10th. So if this sings to you, don't wait to order. I will do my best to rush it out the door and shipped to you asap.
The design can be knit in any weight yarn from Fingering to DK to Worsted weight, with 8 sizes possible needing 200 (240, 275, 310, 340, 375, 410, 445) yards/ 190 (220, 250, 280, 310, 340, 370, 400) meter.
The yarn we offer in these kits is amazingly delicious, from Juniper Moon Farms.
Stargazer is a DK weight made up of 70% llama + 30% silk and having 218 yards (200m)/ 100g. One skein will be included in each kit, thus allowing you to make the first two sizes.
If you would like to make a larger size, contact me and we'll work out more yarn and beads for you. Or you might simply like to get two (or more) kits and expand it that way.
We have a number of colorways that you can choose from. These are all solids or almost-solids which Lily tells me is best for this design:
1. Hyacinth is a deep iris, a blue bordering on purple.
2. Cuprite is a lovely rose with a whisper of plum.
3. Malachite is closer to teal than green; rich and with great depth to it.
4. Emerald is not too dissimilar to Malachite. It is again more of a teal than a straight green though it is not as dark -- a brighter hue.
5. Sapphire is a rich medium blue with gorgeous depth to it.
Beads are optional but add so much to the piece. We will be including a minimum of 20g of beads in each kit which will give you more than you need for these first two sizes and if you get multiple kits, then the beads will again be more than you need.
Size 6/0 beads are a bit tight on the yarn but they work with this yarn. I tried them out and they can be added with a thin crochet hook. There are the greatest range of colors in the 6/0 beads and your kit might have those.
Some kits might instead have the somewhat larger 5/0 triangles or the 4x4 cubes -- this depends on available colors.
If you have a strong preference for a larger bead, tell me. Also let me know if you have an idea of what color bead you'd like to go with. Otherwise I will choose for you.
