A gorgeous new design by Nim Teasdale, Line of Sight plays with the marvelous effects of "illusion knitting."

The Design

Here is what Nim writes:

Line of Sight is a striped asymmetric triangle with a difference - the stripes change direction depending on your point of view.

The body of the knitting is worked in shadow knitting; basic stripes with a knit/purl pattern on the right side, edged by a pretty cable panel of slipped stitches and mini cables and slowly widening reverse garter border.

What I love about this technique is that it reminds me that sometimes there is no one right perspective, which is a nice reminder to tread more gently or soften a judgement.

Yarn and Colorways

We did not put together kits that use the same yarn as what Nim used in her original.  You can see the yarns in our kit in the inset photo on the top picture and again below.

Nim writes that the shawl is ideal for showing off two contrasting skeins -- perhaps two gradients, or maybe a funky duet of solids, or a solid paired with a gradient yarn for dynamic results.

The sample shown on this page that was knit by Nim was knit in fingering weight yarn and used 385m (420y) of orange/brown (MC), and 370m (400y) of green (CC).

Do also note that the size of the shawl is adaptable and can be worked to any size.

We have decided to go with the two gradient option here

Our yarn is  Knitwhits Freia Handpaints Freia Ombré Shawl Ball Merino Fingering - Gradient.  Made of 100% merino, each 100g ball gives 430 yards.

Some of these are wound in the order of colors you see in the photos; some are wound exactly opposite so that the inner color you see becomes the outer color of the ball.

The kit uses the colorways Maple and Sprout, you kit consisting of one ball each of:

1. Maple: Beautiful autumnal hues including sunflower, amber, and bronze.

2. Sprout : Varying shades of green, including olive, seaweed, and pine.

The Pattern

The kit will not automatically include the pattern and has not been figured into the cost.

You can get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. Then you will automatically get any updates and also have a copy saved in your Rav library.  In that case, set the "Pattern" drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed," as you will not be getting it from us.

(Note that Nim is offering the pattern at a discount through Sunday November 15th.)

However, if you decide that you would like a printed copy, we can do that.  Please make sure the drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (please be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do that right before shipping your kit).

Just make sure that drop-down menu is set as you would like before you check out.
