Another real beauty from Kristina Vilimaite of AnimaKnits.

The Design

Here is how the amazing designer describes Lustrous:

This shawl will get you wrapped in nature — just watch while you knit how roots and leaves appear, and strive towards the light to go to seed.

The shawl is worked sideways starting with one side of the triangle. Hence, the shawl grows progressively faster as you have fewer and fewer stitches in a row, fuelling your motivation to finish swiftly. The shawl is knit in one piece — the borders are worked as you go. If desired, use beads to highlight the roots and seeds.

The Yarns and Colorway

The yarns we have for two of our kits are the same as what Kristi used but different colorways; the other kit uses a different yarn.  You can see them in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that. The other photos (all by Hubay-Németh Natália) are there to show you the design.

Our first two kits use yarn which is from Madeline Tosh, a fingering weight called Tosh Merino Light.  This is a 100% merino wool with 420 yards per skein.

1.  Aura is a tone-on-tone mildly variegated yarn, which plays on variegations of a soft blue, some parts darker and some lighter.  The overall look is calm and cool. (Sorry, sold out)

2.  Opaline is a wonderfully unique variegated yarn that plays like a tonal one.  The look from a distance is simply that of a soft lilac with some deepr tones but when you look closer you see all sorts of intriguing changes in the colors ranging from lilac in varying intensities to a soft taupe.  This has a marvelous depth to it.

The third kit uses Dreamy from Anzula and is a 75% superwash merino/ 15% cashmere/ 10% silk and feels absolutely amazing.  There are 385 yards to the skein.  (It is somewhat more expensive than the other kits; the drop-down menu shows the additional cost)

3. Lenore is this colorway and it is a play on red-violets, soft light ones and deeper rich ones for a look which is quite velvety.

All kits will include two skeins of whichever you chose, enough for the Medium sized (roughly 63" x 28") shawl. If you would prefer a smaller version, just contact us and we'll work with you.

The Beads

You will notice from some of the photos of Kristi's original shawl that she chose to use beads of a decidedly contrasting color.

There are lots of possibilities.

All of these would look great with Silver Lined Crystal beads, the silver look like tiny stars.  Alternatively we could pick out a color in the yarn and mirror it in the beads, making sure they will stand on their own while still blending to some degree with the whole.

Or you could choose as Kristie did and have the beads the colors of a favorite flower bud. Just let me know what appeals to you.

If you have a preference, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

Each kit will include a minimum of 520 size 6/0 beads, enough for the Medium size.

The Pattern

The instructions for this lovely shawl are both written and charted.

The kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Kristina via her Ravelry web page. In that case, set the Pattern drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed."

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the drop-down menu is set to that. It is 12 pages.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do that right before shipping your kit.

Just make sure that both drop-down menus are set as you would like before you check out.
