Marigold is a stunning stole by Susanna IC, originally seen in the 2012 publication Sock Report.

It would be best to get your pattern directly via Susanna's Ravelry page and simply get your yarn and beads from us.

The Design

Here I quote Susanna about the pattern itself:

Marigold is inspired by the happy little flower that brightens so many summer gardens.

Just like its namesake, this stole features many small petals at the center together with larger leaves along the borders while beads shimmer along the edges much like droplets of the morning dew.

The wrap is worked seamlessly from a center temporary cast on down to both ends. The main body is a simple and quick-to-knit leaf lace, which contrasts nicely with the more elaborate border stitches. Optional beading along the edges makes a pretty addition to the knit and adds extra weight and interest to the finished shawl.

Yarn and Colorway

Susanna states that all that is needed is either 875 yards of a lace weight yarn or 875 yards of a fingering weight one.

The yarn we have put into kits to make this beauty is not the same as the ones used by Susanna for her original; ours can be seen in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.

Our yarn is Nimbus, an EarthFaire exclusive, a 100% Superwash Blue Faced Leicester (BFL) yarn.  Not quite as fine as merino though plenty soft enough for next-to-skin wear.  What it does have that merino doesn't is a lovely drape and even a shine.

Each set is made up of 6 smaller skeins of 109 yards each so your total will be about 654 yards.

Chimera was named after a mythological fire-breathing female monster.  I love the colorway as a perfect one for Autumn as well as great marigold colors.  It runs from a glowing gold gradually into a rich and deep orange.  This is a sugar maple's colors at peak foliage season -- or a garden of marigolds in mid-spring.

Striking!

This kit is set up to give you one set of Nimbus as described above.  This will give you a bit less than the recommended yardage (654 yards instead of 866 per the pattern) but the shawl is easy enough to modify in length.  There are a number of finished beauties on the Project Pages that use similar total yardages to take a look there before you decide.

The base price given here is for that one set of Chimera.

If you want a second set, contact me and as long as we have stock, I will set it up with you. (Two sets would give you over 1,300 yards of fingering weight yarn so you can make this striking piece quite large indeed.)

Beads

The shawl requires beads (well, they are optional, but they add so very much, don't you think?). For this beauty, Susanna suggests approximately 250 -- as this is fingering weight yarn, we will give you size 6/0 or 5/0 triangles.

If you have a preference on your bead color, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you.

Reminder: the kit will not automatically include the pattern. If you have any reason you prefer not getting the pattern via Ravelry, contact me and I'll work out something else with you.

The photos on this page shows the piece as originally knit by Susanna. These are shown so you get a good idea of the design itself.

Quite a wonderful project. I think you'll be delighted.
