It is inching closer and closer to "the season." This is for those who like to plan ahead.
A kit for this shawl that sings of the Christmas season so beautifully!
Oh my. This is really something.
A marvelous luxury.
Mistletoe & Holly is a lovely design that we are so pleased to be able to offer, just in time to create for the coming holidays!
Simone Kereit of OwlCat Designs has shared this with us.
We recommend you get the pattern directly from Simone via her Ravelry web page. (Other options are mentioned below if this does not suit you.) This web page is set up to give you the yarn and the beads.
Here is how she describes it:
T'is the season…
Take a break from the hustle and bustle to work up this crescent-shaped shawl. Whether you drape it on your shoulders or your mantle, it's sure to put you in a wintery mood!
This seasonal wrap is worked bottom up – lace border to neck. Choose from three different sizes: a large or medium shawl or a small Shoulderette. Optional red and white beading for holly berries and mistletoe berries can be worked into the shawl to be the star at any holiday party!
We found another lovely yarn to offer for this. You can see it floating in the upper righthand corner of the top photo and again below that.
From Katia, this is Air Lux, 70% Viscose, 30% Extrafine Merino Wool with 328 yards (33m) per 50g ball. Though you might think from the yardage that it is a lace weight, it is classified as a fingering weight yarn and knits as such.
Because of the large amount of viscose, the yarn has an amazingly shiny and glowing look.
The colorway we offer here is just perfect. Katia calls it Jade; I would call it Christmas Tree Green!
As Simone recommends 350 - 646 yards (320 - 591 m), two skeins will be in each kit, giving you 656 yards, more than enough for the largest size.
(She writes that these are the measurements for Large (Medium, Small)
60 (50, 42)“/152 (127, 106) cm wingspan, 22 (17, 17)”/56 (43, 43) cm center back)
The pattern calls for two colors of beads. For the original look Simone suggests a red and a white or ivory.
For the three sizes (L, M, S) she recommens 212 (152/ 112) #6/0 red beads and 60 (48/ 48) #6/0 white or ivory beads (the beads being optional).
There are so many that I like with these colors. For a Christmas look, I prefer our Silver Lined Ruby along with the Silver Lined Crystal beads. If you would prefer opaque or matte beads, let me know.
Or perhaps you might like beads that don't sing so much of this one season. We could give you green beads, blue beads, purple beads, magenta bead --- you get the idea -- with some contrating ones to highlight them.
It truly is up to you. If you have a preference, let me know. Otherwise, I will pick for you.
Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.
We recommend you get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Simone via her Ravelry web page. That way you get any updates right away and it is saved in your Rav library.
If you would like a printed copy or would like us to email the pattern to you, contact us and we'll set you up with that.
