A gorgeous new design by Anne-Lise Maigaard, this Moss & Fern Shawl is a beaded beauty made even better with some beautiful Gradiance sets from The Unique Sheep (TUS).

The Design

Here is what Anne-Lise says:

This shawl was inspired by the woods around my home in Sweden.

It has ferns and moss covered stones, lily of the valley, digitalis and blueberries, aspen leaves and the fun propeller seeds from the ash trees.

The ash trees are dying in Sweden, they have a type of fungus which is spreading throughout the country. The trees slowly rot away and fall. Work is being done to try and save them, maybe a seed from one of the fallen ones will one day survive the fungus.

Note that Anne-Lise rates this as of advanced difficulty, as some sections have combinations of knit/purl on WS rows where you will be asked to work in pattern (knit over knit and purl over purl). The ability to read your knitting is required. There are only charts, no written row by row pattern.

Yarn and Colorways

We offer kits using yarn and colors different than what Anne-Lise knit to create her original.  You can see our sets in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.

The yarn is a blend of Linen/ Silk Lace with 35% linen and 65% cultivated silk.  Each Gradiance set is composed of 4 small skeins of 220 yards/ 25g for a total of 100g and 880 yards.

We brought in two colorways for now, both tonal blends:

1. Windy Sea is a song of a tropical sea, moving from a sky blue into a sea foam, gradually deepening to a true teal by the fourth skein.

Our "in stock" sets of Windy Sea have sold out.  You can order it as a "pre-order" and it will be specially dyed for you.  This might take 4 to 6 weeks but as soon as it is ready it will be kitted with the beads and sent to you.

2. Winter Dusk sings of violets going from a light pale lilac deepening gradually into a rich violet with a touch of charcoal.

Beads are optional but we will be including them in each kit.  Anne-Lise recommends size 8/0s, with a maximum of 350 beads if you use them on each marked stitch.

We will include more than that number.  If you have an idea of what color bead you would like, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.  I often go for beads that mirror to some degree the colors in the yarn; if you prefer a bright contrast tell me.

The Pattern

The pattern is not automatically part of the kit.

If you like, you can get the pattern directly from Anne-Lise's Ravelry page.  This is the way to go if you would like a copy in your Ravelry library. In this case, set the drop-down menu above to "No Pattern Needed."

If you would prefer a printed copy there is that option as well.

Or you might choose to have a PDF sent to you via email -- in that case, please select that option via the "Pattern" drop-down menu.

If you choose to have us email the pattern to you, be aware that it is not automatic.  Usually the PDF file will be emailed right before your kit is shipped.
