3/8/2019: These sold out -- we have asked Kelly to dye more for us. It will likely take a bit of time -- I estimate 4 to 6 weeks.
If you wish to pre-order your set, you can do so here. We will send your kit to you as soon we can.
Please note our policy on shipping pre-orders here.
An absolutely beautiful shawl, designed by Anne-Lise Maigaard, this is the shawl version of her St Olof (the earlier version was a smaller fichu that you can see here).
And I we saw this version as testknitted by Marcy (aka mswolpe on Ravelry), well I was just blown away.
So fast forward a few weeks and here we are able to offer the exact yarn in the exact colorway that Marcy used to knit her shawl.
The shawl is worked from the neck down and bound off using either a crochet or knitted picot bind off (your choice, picots can be left out).
Anne-Lise ranks the difficulty of this piece as medium to advanced. The pattern includes charted RS rows only, but WS rows are worked as they appear (knit the knit sts, purl the purl sts), with some small extra action here and there, so the ability to read your knitting is essential.
The Yarn and Colorway
The yarn was dyed by Kelly of The Unique Sheep. It is their Linen/Silk, a blend of 35% linen and 65% silk, a heavy lace weight. The yarn is divided into four smaller skeins each of 25g with 219 yards so you will have a total of 876 yards.
The colorway is called Mikado -- when I first saw it it struck me as having all the flowers of springtime and the song from the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta The Mikado of "The Flowers That Bloom In The Spring, Tra-La!" kept going around and around in my head. :-)
It flows from a yellow (like forsythia blossoms) into a spring green (new grass) into a deeper green (leaves) and finally violet (as in the lovely little violet flowers hiding in the grass).
The photos you see here are both Anne-Lise's original as well as Marcy's test knit. Both are here so you can get a good idea of the design as well as the colors.
The pattern calls for 1409 size 8/0 seed beads or the beads of your choice. Anne-Lise writes that you can use less beads than that by only beading some of the sts or leave beads out completely if you wish.
We will include the full amount of size 8/0 beads in each kit.
Now Marcy used Silver Lined Olive AB 8/0s but your kit might have something different. There are quite a few bead colors I like with the yarn colorway and unless you tell me you have a preference (either color or shape), I will choose for you.
The kit as presented here does not include the pattern.
Many knitters have told me that they prefer getting the pattern via Ravelry, from the designer's web page.
If that is your preference, set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed" and we will not add the cost of the pattern to this kit. You can go to Ravelry and get it so that it is saved in your Rav library and also put you in line for any needed updates as they occur.
If you would like us to print it out and send you the hard copy, that is an option also.
Or I can email it to you directly. Just know that this is not automatic; I manually have to do it and usually do so right before shipping your kit.
