A really lovely cowl from Rose Beck, this delicate and lacy beauty truly pampers your neck. Rose writes that she created it so that the textured leaf pattern is fun to work and resembles the leaves of the beech tree.
Beeches Cowl was originally knit with Breathless DK from Shalimar Yarn -- what we offer instead for this kit is a wonderful yarn from Manos del Uruguay called Silk Blend. The yarn is 30% silk and 70% merino and it simply sings! There is a faint sheen from the silk and the softness of the merino must be felt to be believed. Each skein has 150 yards (135m) per 50 gram skein, a perfect DK weight for this beautiful cowl.
The colorway we offer is similar to the one that Rose used in her original. Called Nickel, it is a soft medium grey. A quiet cloudy summer day, perhaps?
Rose rates this pattern as for an intermediate knitter. Both charted and written instructions are provided.
The pattern gives you two sizes, the cowl as you see it in these photos and a double loop scarf. The cowl ends up as approximately 9 inches high x 26 inches in circumference; if you prefer to make the double loop scarf you will end up with about 48" around.
The kit that we offer here consists of two skeins of Silk Blend which will give you 300 yards (270m) -- enough for the cowl size plus a bit extra.
We offer you the choice via the drop-down menu above for three ways of getting the pattern. Note that the kit does not automatically include the pattern. If you would like a printed copy, please make sure the drop-down menu is set to that. Alternatively you can make sure that drop-down menu is set to the "no pattern" option and get your PDF file of the pattern from Rose directly on her Ravelry web page. Or ask us to email it to you ourselves; just be aware that this is not automatic and it might take me a bit of time to get to it. I usually email these when I am packing up the kits.
This is truly lovely -- no reservations on it. The pattern is clear and easy to follow and the end product is simply delicious.
