Yay! Back in stock (though supplies are limited).
This one is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
By Alla Borisova, Paradise Apples has been calling to me for a while.
Please get your pattern directly from Alla's Ravelry page. We offer here yarn and beads for knitting this beauty.
This is what Alla wrote:
The construction of this lacy shawl is a bit unusual. The shawl consists of five panels: a wide back panel (middle section), knitted-on lace upper edge, two ‘wings’ on each side of the middle line, and a lower border.
The pattern is written for only one size. The original one blocked out at 190 cm length of center back x 90cm. That translates to roughly 75" x 35".
Please also note that the pattern is charted only. And rated for an advanced knitter
Yarn and Colorways
The original shawl shown here was knit using Australian merino 100% wool yarn (400 m/100 g). Our kits use instead Shibui Knits' Birch, a 100% extrafine merino with a micron count similar to that of cashmere. Each skein has 262 yds / 239 m, 1.76 oz / 50 g.
What is needed to make a piece as shown here is between 547 - 656 yards (500 - 600 m).
So we will be including three skeins in each kit, giving you a total of about 786 yards ((717m), more than enough.
We have two colorways you can choose between:
Ivory is just that, a lovely solid creamy ivory. It will show the stitch work beautifully.
Velvet is rather dark and will give you a very different look. It is a rich violet with tremendous depth.
(Sorry, sold out)
What is suggested is 190 size 6/0 beads. We will include in each kit approximately 20g of 6/0s which will give you about 240 beads.
The original shawl was knit using white pearl beads ("ceylon" is the name for glass beads made to look like little pearls).
As the Ivory colorway is not a pure white, I prefer the Antique Ivory Peal beads with it, or perhaps the Crystal Ivory Gold Luster. Either of these will be a subtle look. If you want more of a stand-out bead, any of the golden ones would look very fine indeed.
For the Velvet, there are quite a few beads that sing to me. I like the Silver Lined Smoky Amethyst AB beads very much, the silver lining allowing them to stand out beautifully. I also like the Metallic Dark Plum Iris for a bead that blends in more while still catching the light.
If you have a preference for bead color, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
