We have another beauteous concoction from Susanna IC.

Here is how she describes it:

"The wings of butterflies and moths with their fragile beauty inspire this design. I wanted to capture their delicate quality and I believe that this lace pattern expresses that...

"The shawlette’s crescent shape helps it stay in place more readily than traditional triangular shawls and its smaller dimensions provide a weightless little cover up for summer dresses."

The original seen here was knitted out of a single skein of Malabrigo Lace, in a yarn color reminiscent of the silvery moon while the beads sparkle like the first stars in an evening sky.

All of the reverse rows purled, which is one reason Susanna can rate Pavonia as an ideal quick project for any knitter, even one new to lace knitting.

Finished Size: 16”/ 41cm x 54”/ 137cm blocked

Yarn: Any lace or fingering weight yarn; the original was completed with approximately 400 yards of Malabrigo Lace (100% Baby Merino wool; 470 yards / 50 grams); color Polar Morn

Gauge: 16 sts / 24 rows = 4" / 10 cm in stockinette, after blocking; correct gauge is not critical for this project, but your final measurements and yardage requirements may vary if your gauge is different

Needles: 32” / 80 cm US 7 / 4.50 mm circular needle

42 6/0 4.0mm beads (optional)

The beads are added via the crochet-hook-as-as-you-go method which means you will need a very thin crochet hook, around size 14 / 0.75mm (small enough to fit through holes of beads).

We think this is lovely.

A lovely piece -- fun to make, wonderful to wear.
