A lovely shawl by Kristina Vilimaite of AnimaKnits, Peace of Mind was designed both as a lovely knit and as one to help you capture the most precious moments of your life.
The pattern needs to be gotten directly from Kristina on her Ravelry page. This kit is for the yarns only with the possible addition of beads (see descriptions below).
Here is what Kristina writes:
While knitting this shawl, remember the moments in your life when you felt at peace. If you “knit them into” the fabric of the shawl, the shawl can later serve as a reminder to notice such peaceful moments in your everyday life, and to create them for yourself.
This crescent shaped shawl is worked top down using yarn in three colours. It features a squishy two-colour brioche body, and a fast to work diamond lace edging. According to the instructions provided, you can make a medium sized shawl from lace weight yarn, or a large shawl from fingering weight. However, it is very easy to make the shawl larger or smaller using the notes on customisation.
The Yarns and Colorways
We put together kits to mirror exactly what Kristina used in her original shawl shown here (by permission of designer, © Kristina Vilimaite / József Hubay).
The shawl was knit using The Fibre Company's Canopy Fingering, composed of 50% Alpaca/ 30% Merino/ 20% Bamboo, and with 200 yards (183m) per 50g skein.
And I have to say, the most amazing thing about the Canopy Fingering yarn is how it feels -- I wish you could feel it over the internet. It is truly delcious
Each kit includes two skeins of each of the following colors for a total of 6 skeins per kit:
The shawl is gorgeous, with a inished blocked size of about 79" x 24" (200 x 62 cm)!
Some further notes from Kristina:
The pattern is fully charted and includes line-by-line written instructions. Previous experience with knitting brioche is useful. Video tutorials are available for the I-cord cast on and working aligned picots here.
No, the pattern as written does not include beads. But should you want to add some, the lace work is a great possibility as is the bind off edge.
Wherever you decide to put your beads (and it would be totally your own design decision) we are offering a 20g container of 6/0 beads with this kit if you so choose (via the drop-down menu). This will give you approximately 240 beads to play with. :-)
If you have a color preference, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you.
Kristina had asked test knitters what they would like to tell about the pattern and the finished cowl to other knitters and here are some of their answers (I copy here):
Jurga: It’s a wonderful possibility to try two-colour brioche. The pattern is very well-written, easily customizable and the result is very rewarding.
Hofi: I love it. I will knit another one.
echeverialaui: The pattern is easy to follow, well written and produces a stunning result. If you are up for an instant reward, better work custom size with heavier yarn and bear in mind, that 2-colour brioche looks at its best if you use highly contrasting colours. Also the generous use of life-lines will be helpful, unless you are capable of doing repairs in brioche!
Craftzone: Addictive knitting and nice result :)
All I can add is "Yum!"
