Back in stock! (And great fun too....)

There is a really striking free design in this issue of , created by Pinpilan Wangsai and called Pincha.

I saw it and I fell in love.  So I emailed Pinpilan and asked for permission to use her photos and suggest yarns for this beauty -- and I am delighted that she said yes!

This "kit" is actually simply one skein of yarn only (+ the option of adding some beads if you so choose).  Make your selection and follow this link to download your free pattern.

The Design

Here is how she describes this beauty:

I’ve always loved the look of variegated yarn, but I’ve never been wowed by how they knit up. I’m a control freak when it comes to aesthetics and the thought of colors pooling willy nilly drove me crazy. I’ve always avoided them because I didn’t know how to tame them.

But one day my boyfriend brought me a gorgeous skein of Spritzer yarn from Cruellas. One look at the shifting turquoise, leaf greens and emeralds and I fell in love. (With the yarn, and maybe a little bit more in love with him as well.) I started dreaming up ways I can show these beautiful color changes to their best advantage. The name of this lovely colorway tipped me off: Peacock Plumes.

Pincha comes from the word peacock feather in Sanskrit. It’s one of my favorite poses in yoga, lifting the body up, balancing on your forearm, your feet reaching for the sky, light as a feather.

And in a way this shawl is like that, inspired by the vision of feathers gliding lightly off each other creating a beautiful wrap that swirls around your neck.

The shawl is made up of Repeating feather motifs. You knit one feather at a time. Each feather slides away from the previous one reaching further and further, building up in to a lovely wing-like shape.

Oh my yes yes yes indeed!

The Yarn

Now Pinpilan writes also that only one skein of any sock yarn of your choice can be used. This design looks its best when the color is variegated. Take a look at these Project Pages for a look at some real beauties.

What we have put together on this web page is simply a selection of some variegated fingering weight yarns that we think would look lovely knit up into this design.

Our yarns are not the same as what Pinpilan used in her original.  You can see our offerings in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.  The other photos of the designer's original pieces are there to show you how it can all come together and allow you to use your imagination.

What we have here are some lovely colorways of Tosh Mo Light, 80% superwash merino + 20% kid mohair and with 420 yards (384m) per 100g skein.    It feels lovely.

One skein will make up each kit.

The Colorways

We had a number of very lovely color mixes to offer here, all variegated yarns.  All we currently have left in stock is:

Betta: Quite unusual.  Here is a cream yarn dyed with splashes of bright fluorescent colors -- lime yellow and bright orange as the main ones.

Biocoastal is a variegated colorway that remains tonal -- mainly the hues are variations of coral from very light to rather deep with some stretches of the base ecru as well.  Every now and then there is also a wash of blues, quite subtle indeed.

Across The Universe is bright and happy with mostly turquoise and teal, some blue and violet and occasional splashes of green and pink.

Gosia is deep and cool, including black and cobalt, purple and violet and a few lighter grays and pinks.

No, this design was not written with any beads.  But couldn't you just see them at the ends of each leaf, a glistening dewdrop adding just a smidgen of weight to the piece?

We are offering an option of getting about 10 grams of size 6/0 beads with the kit. :-)  Just for the fun of it.

They will be chosen to look great with the yarn you choose, either as a striking contrast or a mirror of the yarn color.  If you have a preference, let me know.  Otherwise I will choose for you.
