Designed by Anne Corcoran, of Queen Anne's Lace comes some lovely scarves and shawls designed for small quantities of lace weight yarn.

This pattern has three different and distinct scarves, all inspired by the The Highwayman, an 18th century love story in rhythm and lace. One of my favorites -- my mother used to read it to me as a child and it always sent shivers down my spine.

Ribbon of Moonlight is the scarf shown in the dark gray, toward the middle of the photo here. It is worked in two pieces, from the cast-on edge to the center and joined with a three-needle bind off, or grafted (instructions are included) The finished measurements are 23 x 96.5 cm (9" x 38"). This scarf uses only 193m (175 yards of lace weight yarn.

Ribbon of Love is the red scarf. This is worked from a center provisional cast-on to a point on either side and is finished with tassels at each point. It ends up as 28 x 167.5 cm (11 x 66") and uses 345m (315 yards of lace weight yarn.

And the triangular one is Spirits of the Night. This is worked from the bottom cast-on edge with decreases in the center and sides to finish at the top. This one requires 193 m (175 yards) of lace weight yarn and measures 28 x 73.5cm (11 x 29").

These are beauties -- lovely to make and to wear. Each is a relatively small project -- which can be fun as a general rule. I find that the results are much faster to see and even complexities are easier to confront.

The pattern does require that you work with charts.

And included is a full copy of the poem to learn as you knit.
