This one is totally awesome.

A beaded beauty by Nim TeasdaleRadiata is a striking beaded shawl that just sings of summer.

The Design

This is what Nim writes:

Radiata is inspired by the spiraling form in the centre of a sunflower, and by an absurdly cheerful cake of yarn which was a gift from a friend, like a sunbeam in the grey depths of winter.

The design uses a spiraling wedge shape which increases in gradually expanding leaves that radiate sideways out from the centre to form a generous crescent.

*The pattern can be worked in 4 sizes, and the edging continued to any size to use up any remaining yarn.

*Pattern rows on the right side only.

*Optional beading

*The pattern can be worked entirely from either the written pattern or charts.

*Adaptable to a range of yarn weights from lace to DK.

The Yarn

We are not offering kits using the same yarn as Nim used in her original shawl.  Ours can be seen in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.

(The colorways are very different than Nim's but they are really lovely and I fell in love.)

The photos of Nim's piece are here to show you the design and allow you to use your imagination.

There are lots (!) of options for this design.

Nim writes that the pattern can be easily worked with a variety of yarn weights, from the light lace up to DK weight, anywhere between 437 and 880 yards (400 - 800 m).  Nim knit hers (photos of which you see on this page) of a lace weight yarn, about 440 yards.

The Yarn and Colorways

I took a look at the Project Pages  for this beauty and noticed that the shawls that really appealed to me were knit in gradiently dyed yarns.

The yarns we have are Trendsetter's Evolution, 100% merino wool with about 495 yards/ 150g disk.

***If you want to make a larger one, contact me and if we can we'll set you up with a larger kit.***

The colors give that awesome gradual change that really makes designs like this sing!

Earthly Glass of Wine is a most interesting mix of colors, going from pink, gold, and violet into the browns of tree bark and driftwood. (Sorry, sold out)

Rose Fuchsia is a cool mix of hues, including iris and fuchsia and violet mingling with greys and finally ending up as a pink.

The Beads

As I mentioned above, there are a lot of options for this shawl.  I've been emailing back and forth to Nim about this.

What we worked out is that the smallest size (which used 400m) would need about 150 beads, or closer to 200 beads if one choses to bead the edge as well.  The next to largest size (using aobut 845m) would use about 199 beads without the extra beading on the edge. And I found a number of knitters who made real beauties using up to 500 beads!

It is truly up to you.

And because it is just so much fun to play with color, we will be including beads of a mix of many shades and tones to reflect to colors the yarn!

(Of course, if you would rather just have one color of beads, tell me. That's fine. )

Each kit will include about 50 grams of 6/0 beads, or roughly 600 beads.

The Pattern

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. In this case set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed" and get the pattern via Ravelry and Nim.  This will ensure that you receive any and all updates as well.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you(just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do so right before I ship your kit).

Big smiles!
