Note that this is essentially the same kit as we offered last week that sold out so very very fast, simply with different colorways, this time the yarn having been dyed into self-striping colors.

We had been offered some gorgeous refined alpaca/silk lace weight yarn from Freia Yarns, a line that was being discontinued.  We are sharing the savings with you!  A great opportunity to get a great yarn in beautiful colors.

This is the end of what we were able to get in this yarn. The colors are no longer what they call "ombre" with one long gradiently changing colorway.  These balls will stripe into lovely hues.

Again, this one of my very favorite designs!  There is something really special about the creations of Mindy Ross that just strike the perfect chord with me.

Here is how Mindy describes Reverse Psychology:

Reverse Psychology is a technique involving the advocacy of a belief or behavior that is opposite to the one desired, with the expectation that this approach will encourage the subject of the persuasion to do what actually is desired!

Put simply??? IT’S REVERSIBLE!

This simple-to-knit piece is loaded with ethereal texture and is a delight for wearable neckwear. Because of its abstract shape, the possibilities are endless, for tying and/or draping. Designed on the bias, the detailed stitches travel in various streams of eye-catching interest.

Two stitches begin your knitting journey, and stitch count ranges from this starting point with varying amounts of increases & decreases, with 171 stitches at the most. Basic knowledge of knitting stitches include YO, K2tog, KFB, BO, with beading optional; detailed bead placement is included in the pattern instruction. This crescent abstract shape can be blocked to various length and size, depending on your blocking choice, or doesn’t have to be blocked at all, lending to drape with a bit of Bohemian Pizazz.

Yarn and Colorways

Mindy originally wrote the pattern for Wolle’s Color Changing Cotton 100gr skein, feeling that the texture and design work alongside the color changes of the cotton fiber.

When I went hunting for some ideas of for this beautiful refined lace yarn from Freia, I  discovered to my delight that quite a few knitters used a lace weight Freia yarn (in different colorways, of course) to make beautiful pieces in Mindy's Reverse Psychology.

Take a look at these projects using the Refined Lace here, and here, and a slightly different Freia lace weight yarn in these projects here, and here

So! We are delighted to be able to offer Freia Refined Lace Weight in a delightful 80% alpaca + 20% silk blend, 351 yards (321m) in each 50 gram cake.  The most wonderful part of this yarn is the looooooooooong color stretches that gradually blend one into the next.

Here is a quote from the Freia folks:  "Our... Alpaca Silk Lace is a four-ply 80% Alpaca and 20% Silk Lace yarn from Peru. with a gentle halo and a bit of sheen. This base is perfect for light lacy shawls with a delicate appearance, yet strong enough to make that favorite drape-y tee!"

 Mindy recommends between 450 - 550 yards (411 - 503 m) for Reverse Psychology.

Two cakes will be included in each kit so you will have a total of 702 yards.

Note also that there is a bonus of an EXTENDED PATTERN ENDING should you have yarn left for continuation, showing bead placement if desired.

Truly this will be glorious!

These are not the yarns that Mindy used in her original pieces -- the ones we offer for this kit can be seen in the inset photos on the top picture and then again the three photos right below that. The photos of the finished shawls are there so you can see the design.

About Flux colorways:

Each 50 gram ball...begins and ends with the same color, making for easy transitions from one ball to the next and leading to less waste. Flux Handpaints will have a base of about 8 colors per ball, though the dyes blend together and form additional colors.

1. Seaglass is a cool colorway featuring gray, teal, chartreuse, borwn and back to gray.

2. Byzantine is as rich as its name implies.  I see a rich brown into chartreuse into blue into violet into rose into wisteria and back to the brown.

3. Blossom features taupe, pink, brown, fuchsia, ecru and back again to taupe. (Sorry, sold out.)

The pattern also allows for optional beading.

If you choose to bead as the pattern shows, it requires between 670 and 725 beads; size 6/0 are recommended for a piece knit of fingering weight yarn.

Many of the knitters who chose to knit with lace weight yarn also used size 6/0 beads and indeed silk is very strong.

However, we are offering a choice, via the drop-down menu labeled Kit above.

The kit price as it stands now is for one cake of yarn plus at least 725 size 8/0 beads -- those are smaller, lighter in weight, and give a more subtle look.

If you prefer going with the more dramatic 6/0 beads, there is that option as well.

And if you have a preference on bead color, let me know.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

The pattern itself gives excellent written instruction for those with knowledge of basic knitting, with helpful ‘tips’ -- Mindy rates it as ideal for the advanced-beginner to intermediate knitter and beyond.

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Mindy via her Ravelry web page. In this case, make sure the Pattern drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed" as you will be getting it elsewhere.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the Pattern drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do so right before I ship your kit).

Just make sure that all three drop-down menus are set as you would like before you check out.

This is a marvelous piece -- a real pleasure to knit, to wear, to have....
