A beautiful design by Anne-Lise Maigaard,
The best way to get this pattern is via Anne-Lise's Ravelry page. This puts a copy in your Ravelry library and ensures you get any updates right away.
Rivendell is worked from the neckline outward with a lovely stitch pattern that is carried on throughout the shawl.
The bind-off can be knit or crocheted, a lovely picot either way.
The Yarn and Colorways
The shawl as knit by Anne-Lise and pictured here was knit using 460 yards of a fingering weight yarn. The pattern is written so that shawl can easily be made larger or smaller.
The shawl shown measures 21.5 inches (55 cm) deep and 55 inches (125 cm) wide. Size is adjustable, several pattern elements can be repeated as many times as you wish, some can even be left out if desired.
So in planning for this shawl, Anne-Lise suggests fingering weight yarn anywhere from 437 - 875 yards (400 - 800 m).
What we have for these kits is not the same yarn as what Anne-Lise used in her original piece. Instead these are specially dyed "shawl balls" from Freia Fine Handpaints, in colors that gradually change in one lovely slow color progression.
Each ball is 100 grams and roughly 430 yards (393 meters) and made up of 100% US Cruelty-Free Merino.
We have two colorways you can choose from. We chose ones that will allow the stitch work to stand out beautifully.
Kit #1. Whisper contains soft almost-pastels, running from a latte into orchid, into lilac into mint.
Kit #2. Ice Queen grows from cream into arctic into aqua into ocean teal.
Your kit will contain one ball of your choice. If you want a larger shawl, two kits will work well.
Beads are optional but add a wonderful extra "ooomph" to the piece. The number needed varies -- the shawl as pictured on this page used only 154 size 6/0 beads as only the edging was beaded.
The pattern itself is charted with a lot more beads, however, so if you want to use more beads, you will find placement suggestions in the pattern. The number of beads you will need depends on which charts you choose to work and how many times, so the number of beads will be completely individual.
We will be including one 35g container of 6/0 beads in each kit. That will give you roughly 420 beads + or -. If you would like more, contact us and we'll work with you on it.
