This is a true blast-from-the-past. I think the last time we had put together kits for this lovely shawl was back in 2011. You know true classics never get dated, and I think you will find this very enticing indeed.
I especially love how the beads form a picture of birds on a branch.
Here is how the designer, Sharon Dreifuss of She-Knits, describes this piece:
...Robin is a beaded shawl worked side to side. The pattern is written completely in text with many detailed explanations and tips for knitters that are newer to lace and beaded knitting. There are also charts for the beaded sections if you prefer to work from a chart. Additionally there are numerous video’s Sharon specifically created to help guide you though the knitting techniques in Robin. ..
The wind told the grasses,
And the grasses told the trees.
The trees told the bushes,
And the bushes told the bees.
The bees told the robin,
And the robin sang out clear:
Spring is here
Yarn and Colorways
We do not offer the same yarn as Sharon used in her original. You can see our yarn in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.
What is needed is 630 - 640 yards (576 - 585 m) of fingering weight yarn. As there are interesting stitch designs as well as quite a bit of beading, we decided to stay with a solid (or almost-solid) colored yarn.
Perennial is a delicious yarn made up of 60% superwash merino +25% suri alpaca + 15% nylon, with 497 yatrds (454m)/ 100g skein. Two skeins will be included in each kit.
We have three colorways you can choose among:
Purple is exactly that, the royal color that was reserved for nobility throughout the middle ages.
Raspberry is a vibrant rich deep fuchsia.
Silver is a lucious medium gray that almost seems to glow.
Yes, lots of beads!
Each kit will include the size 6/0 seed beads, 710 of them.
Your kit will have a few extra of each.
If you have a preference on bead color, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you.
You will need a thin crochet hook for the beading (not included in the kit but you can find some on this page) or the equivalent (such as the larger size of the Verna-x).
(BTW, Robin Flew the Coop is the version of this shawl for those who would prefer leaving out the beads. if this is the case with you, let me know and I will refund the cost of the beads in this kit.)
Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern and the cost of the pattern has not been factored into the cost of the kit.
I know some knitters might prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Sharon via her Ravelry web page. In this case, set the drop-down menu to "No pattern needed" as you will be getting it there.
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that (there are 23 pages and thus this option will be a bit more in cost).
We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do it right before packing up your order for shipment).
Just make sure that both drop-down menus are set as you would like before you check out.
