Only two kits left in stock!
This is such a lovely shawl!
We chose a lovely design by Nim Teasdale called RobinLeaf. Here is how she describes it:
This design is a remix of the triangle shawl, Robin in the Leaves, and was inspired by revisiting one of my favourite childhood books while reading it with my own children.
The edging uses a stitch pattern by Naomi Parkhurst of Gannet Designs, who has cleverly encoded the word ‘Rain’ into the lace, which seems rather fitting for an English landscape.
The size of the shawl is adaptable, both the texture stitch and the lace sections can be worked to any size. The line of catkins is optional, and can also be repeated multiple times.
The design can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with some notes.
Pattern rows are worked on the right side only.
The second colour used in the catkins is only stranded on one row, and carried up through later rows by slipping stitches.
The Yarn and Colorways
We are not offering in these kits the same yarn or colorway that Nim used in her original piece.
Our yarn can be seen in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that. Nim's photos of her original shawl are shown here as well so you can get an idea of the design.
Nim writes that the sizing is adaptable to any yardage of lace to DK yarn.
The yarn is from Katia and is called Silk Degradé. It is wound into cakes, made up of 35% Cotton, 35% Silk, 30% Viscose with 656 yards/ 150g.
It is considered a DK weight yarn by KFI though yardage-wise it seems to me to be closer to fingering. Either way, it will work beautifully in this design. Plus it feels deliciously cool and has a lovely shine to it.
This colorway is not named, just numbered as #303. It is a lovely blend of sea green gradually morphing into peach (or vice versa).
The pictured shawl used 330m (360y) of fingering weight yarn and measures approximately158x43cm (62x17in) after blocking. So one skein of this yarn will give you a shawl a bit larger. One ball will be in each kit (if you would like more, contact me and we'll work it out if we have enough in stock).
You will notice on Nim's original piece, there is a contrasting line of catkins and buds. That is optional. The second colour is stranded on a single row, then slipped on following rows.
You can used any yarn that you have leftover from another project and slide it in there if you wish or pulling some of the other side of this colorway to give a contrast that will work perfectly.
The original shawl used 315 beads. We will include in each kit a bit more than that -- roughly 35g or 420 beads (+ or -) in each kit.
If you have a preference on bead color, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
This pattern can be worked entirely from written pattern, or from charts with some notes.
Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.
Some knitters will prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed." And bear in mind, if you want the pattern saved in your Ravelry library, this is the way to go.
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and usually do that right before shipping your order).
So to sum it up: This kit will include the yarn, the beads, and perhaps the pattern (depending on your choice here).
