A most lovely shawl, knit in the brioche style, and really special.

Ashleigh of Wanderlust Fiber Arts has created a beautiful piece in her Rocky Mountain Sunburn.

Please make sure to get the pattern directly from her on her Ravelry page here.  What we offer via this webpage is a set of yarn that should look really lovely in this.

The Design

Here is what Ashleigh writes:

I went to a small school high up in the Colorado Rockies. The sun shines over 300 days a year, and I was always amazed at how we could experience a blizzard one day and a sunburn the next day.

Rocky Mountain Sunburn’s two-color brioche cables remind me of the strong rays of sun that we saw daily in the mountains. It uses simple garter stitch, two-color brioche stitch, and strategic increases to create a half-pi shawl that is perfect for the crisp mountain air!

The pattern has written instructions for the garter stitch sections, has both charted and written instructions for the brioche sections, and includes a schematic to help guide the knitter.

The Yarn

We have not made a kit using the same yarns that Ashleigh used in her original.  Instead we went for two colorways from Malabrigo in their Mechita, staying within the same overall color groupings but selecting two colorways from their new speckled offerings.

The Colorways

Your kit will consist of one skein of each of these, both in Mechita is 100% merino superwash with 420 yards (385m) per 100g skein. As all that is needed is two fingering weight colors of 390 yds (356 m) + 390 yds (356 m) , one skein of each should be more than enough.

1. Lava is a fiery blend of colors, with many shades and tonalities of red-orange from very pale to very dark.  Over it all are dashes and speckles are dark colors, blacks and very deep purples and navy.

2. Aureo is a lovely gold, the color of sunflowers, with dark dashes and speckles of black (mostly; a few look a bit navy and some royal purple, depending on the light).

Your kit will consist of one skein of each.
