This one really appeals to me.

Rondelay is an intriguing new scarf design by Jennifer Dassau of the Knitting Vortex -- Jennifer is the designer of the most interesting Venomous Tentacular, and here she presents another fun fun fun design.

This is the second in a series of garter shawls she is currently working on, exploring non-traditional shaping with short rows.

This web page gives you a hard copy of the pattern, printed on heavy-weight paper and slid into a sheet protector.

Here is how Jennifer describes this most unusual scarf:

Rondelay is a one-skein garter shawl constructed from three sequential half rounds or rondels, which grow from cast on stitches using short rows and strategically placed radial YO increases. Each rondel builds upon the previous one, creating a finished semi-circular shape that drapes beautifully as it wraps around the shoulders. Designed to show off the colors of a variegated or hand dyed skein, Rondelay looks equally fantastic in a solid color.

The finished size is about 50" long, with the widest depth roughly 9".

The original yarn used (that you see in these photos) were Malabrigo Yarn Sock (100% superwash merino, 440 yards), 1 skein. Basically what you need is approximately 410 yards of light fingering weight yarn.

It strikes me that there is a huge assortment of glorious yarns that will look amazing in this design. You can go with a luxury skein and have a marvelous piece. Any variegated yarn would make for a stunning scarf.

Or perhaps one with long color repeats could make a most interesting scarf indeed. The last photo on this page shows a beauty that one of our knitters made using a yarn with a long color repeat -- thanks, Joan -- and I think it looks amazing.

I encourage you to go browsing in our Fingering Weight section and have a great time -- treat yourself!
