Anne-Lise's original shawl

This beautiful lace shawl started its life as a MKAL.  Well, the mystery has been resolved and the shawl is simply gorgeous!

By Anne-Lise Maigaard, Scottish Thistle is part of her Canadian Geography Series and is her shawl in honor of Nova Scotia (or New Scotland).

The shawl is worked from the neck and out, with a patterned tab cast on that carries on all the way through.

Anne-Lise wrote to me when I queried her about this lovely piece that it is only 124 rows and cannot be extended.  We went (per her suggestion) with a fingering weight yarn that will give you super stitch definition.  Be aware that there are cables, lots of cable corssing, and nupps.

The Yarn and Colorway

Obviously our yarn and colors are different than what Anne-Lise used for her original piece.  You can see what we have in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.  We include photos of Anne-Lise's original shawl so you can see the design.

These are kits which use our new Leeana yarn, 51% cultivated silk/ 49% merino, a Gradiance set dyed by Kelly of The Unique Sheep in six skeinettes of 132 yards/ 33g each.

So with rougly 200 grams of yarn, your total will be about very close to 800 yards (straight math of 6 x 132 yards per skein yields 792 yards but Kelly tends to give a bit more than she writes on each skein).

The colorway is part of our Treasure Chest color circle, this set melding from a glorious peach-y gold into more and more rose tones.  The whole seems to glow with color -- really striking.

The Beads

Beads are optional but will be included in your kit unless you tell me differently.

Anne-Lise writes:  When using beads, you will need 554 size 6/0 seed beads, or the size you think fits your yarn. More beads can be added, but as charted there are only beads in the last chart.

So figuring that there are about 12 size 6/0 beads per gram, your kit will include roughly 50 grams of beads, or 600, give or take a few, well more than you will need per the pattern directions.

If you have a preference on color for your beads, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.

The Pattern

The pattern is both charted and written out, one file for each.  A row by row stitch count and percentage done is included in the written pattern.

Anne-Lise rates this pattern as medium to advanced. You will find that most of the charts (but not all) have RS rows charted/described only, wrong side rows are purled (except for edge stitches).

The final border chart and side edge charts are patterned both RS and WS rows, though these patterned WS rows are very simple and consist of purl tbl, purl and knit sts.

The kit is not set up to automatically include the pattern.

It is often best to get the pattern directly from the designers Ravelry page. This stores the pattern in your Ravelry library and makes sure that you immediately get any updates. If you want to go this route, set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed".

If you prefer, you can get a printed pattern from us.  That option is available.  We are also very willing to email you a copy of the PDF.  Again, the drop-down menu will allow for that.  Just know that it is not automatic; I have to manually send you the pattern and usually do so right before shipping.
