This was the first of Ambah O'Brien's unusual designs to catch my eye. The Sea Dragon lends itself to so many permutations and combinations of colors; it makes of itself a true artist's palette.
Note that it would be best to get the pattern directly from Ambah's Ravelry page. This will save it in your Ravelry library and make sure that any updates reach you right away. What we offer is some lovely yarn to make this with.
Here is how Ambah describes Sea Dragon:
Inspired by sea creatures real and imagined, the Sea Dragon Shawl is knit from side to side, with short rows forming a shallow crescent shape.
Its comfortable proportions are perfect for wrapping around the neck scarf-style or wearing around the shoulders.
Choose between a small or large Sea Dragon Shawl and showcase your favourite yarn: go crazy with your leftover yarn stash and knit each segment in a different colour, use a gradient or variegated yarn, or go with your favourite solid colour combination.
Suitable for adventurous beginners, techniques include: simple short rows, picking up stitches, simple increases and decreases.
The yarn we offer is not the same as the one which Ambah used in her original piece. Our yarn can be seen in an inset photo on the top picture on this page as well as the second and third photos here. The other photos are there to show you the design and shows the original pieces by Ambah.
Now note where wrote above suggesting that you could knit each segment in a different color and that is where this kit shines.
Ambah says that this pattern is easily adapted to different yarn weight and sizes by varying the number of repeats. And you will have a nice in-between amount of yarn here. The multi-colored one we show on this page was done in just this kind of size.
Ambah suggests for fingering weight yarn to use 400-732m (437- 800 yds) in the Main Color and in the contrast color between 119-155m (130-170 yds).
We put together some kits from The Unique Sheep dyed in Luna, a 75/20/5 blend of superwash merino/ nylon/ stellina. The stellina in Luna is a lovely silver, that adds wonderful highlights.
Each mini-skein set consists of five skeinettes of 50 yards each for a total of 250 yards of Luna, gradually changing colors.
Each Contast skein is a fat 150g skein of 654 yards.
So each kit gives you well more yardage than you'll need.
The Gradiance mini-skein set is a colorway we are calling Fairy Circle. This combines warm and cool neutrals in a wonderful mix, ranging froma pale grey, deepning int beige, brown, and then taupe.
The Contrast skein is a delicious silver gray, a bit darker than the initial gray of the Fairy Circle so it will stand out wonderfully against each of the hues.
Here the Gradiance mini-skeins are another new colorway we have named Lancelot. These move from a pale moss into a deeper green and then a steel blue.
The Contrast skein is a wonderful rich sky blue, again deeper than the blue of Lancelot and thus able to contrast well with them all.
Reminder: the kit will not automatically include the pattern. We strongly suggest you get a PDF file of the pattern from Ambah via her Ravelry web page.

Beautiful. No question at all.
