I love this and just had to bring it back.
Kristina Vilimaite had taken her gorgeous Secession Shawl and re-created it into a cowl form.
It is one of three designs that can be gotten from her on Ravelry as part of her Recowled e-book.
Note that the kit does not automatically include the pattern. We strongly suggest getting the pattern via Kristina's Ravelry page and thus saved in your Rav library. In addition you would then get any updates as soon as they are released.
Here is what she writes about her Secession Cowl:
Simplicity and decorativeness united in this cowl reminds of the Viennese Secession movement (the Austrian Art Nouveau).
While worn the cowl looks like a shawl, but it is more practical as there are no dangling points to get into your food or cooking. My all time favourite Secession shawl is the inspiration for this cowl.
The knitting starts with a provisional cast on. Then the asymmetric fabric is worked flat sideways in one piece. After binding off at the bottom edge of the cowl, stitches are picked up from one side and worked together with the cast on stitches using three-needle bind off. Beads are optional but highly recommended.
The Yarn and Colorways
We are not offering in our kits the exact yarn or colorways that Kristina used for her original. You can see what we have in the inset photos on the top picture and again right below that. The photos of her finished piece are shown (© Kristina Vilimaite / Natália Hubay-Németh and shown with her permission) so you can get a good idea of the design.
What is needed is roughly 569 yards (520 m) of fingering weight yarn.
We just recently got in some absolutely deliciously delightful yarn that might be a bit closer to sport weight than fingering weight. As gauge is not really a factor here, as you have enough yardage, this will work beautifully.
The yarn is from Prism Yarns and is called Petite Madison Layers. (The "Layers" refers to the dyeing method: it is a style of dyeing unique to Prism, basically being complex colors that are dyed one at a time over one another. It is absolutely beautiful.
The yarn is composed of 75% Merino/ 15% Cashmere/ 10% Silk with 372 yards/ 100 gram skein.
Two skeins will be included in each kit.
Sapphire is a tonal play on blues, some slightly green, some slightly purple, all together giving a deep ocean look.
Raspberry (Sorry, sold out)
Concord is a tonal play on deep royal purple and some violet and indigo. The overall look is amazingly rich and with gret depth.
Beads are optional but will be included in your kit.
All that are needed are 135 size 6/0 beads (that's a bit less than 15 grams). Kristina used Matte Crystal beads in hers and had them stand out in a mostly lovely manner. I can follow her lead and give you contrasting beads -- the Silver Lined Crystal will look awesome -- or go with beads that mirror the colors in the yarn and have them stand out but not quite as strongly.
And if you look at the photos of the Secession Shawl, you'll see how beautifully cube beads look. So that is another option.
If you have a preference, tell me. Otherwise I will pick for you.
The kit does not automatically include the pattern.
The best way to get this pattern is via Kristina's Raverly page. This puts a copy in your Ravelry library and ensures you get any updates right away.
However, should that not work for you for any reason, I can work out a printed copy for you or to email it directly. Just contact us and we'll set you up with that option.
