An absolutely gorgeous design, this piece by Kristina Vilimaite of AnimaKnits just sings to me in so many ways!
Here is how Kristina describes this beautiful Seeds to Flowers Cowl:
I love wearing shawls, but it is no fun when a tip of one dangles into my food or gets into my cooking. So here is my Seeds to Flowers shawl tipless, converted to a cowl, which nevertheless has a nice curve both at the top and at the bottom edges. Call it a scowl.
Seeds to Flowers Cowl is the first pattern from the Recowled e-book. The knitting starts at the top with just a few stitches. While working the stockinette body flat, plant some beads for seeds. The rest is worked in the round: stems and leaves of Japanese lace, Estonian lace buds and blossoming flowers sprinkled with dew-like beads.
The cowl is designed for fingering weight yarn. The size can be easily adjusted by working more or fewer rows of the stockinette body.
The Yarn and Colorways
The sample you see here as knit by Kristina was done in Malabrigo Sock Yarn -- our kits offer a different yarn as well as different colorways. You can see our choices in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that. We show you the photos of the original cowl so you can see the design. Now use your imagination a bit....
Our yarn is Fino from Manos del Uruguay, a 70% merino/ 30% silk blend that feels awesome and has about 490 yards (450m)/ 100g skein.
We have two delicate colorways, both tonal not-quite solids.
1. Mother of Pearl is a marvelous play on grey-violet, with lighter and medium hues blending into a lovely whole. (Sorry, sold out)
2. Tea Leaves is a brand-new colorway from Manos, a lovely cool mix of greens that also blends with shades of a taupe-grey to form a tonal beauty.
One skein of your choice will be in your kit, giving you well more yardage than is needed.
Kristina recommends 237 beads in either size 8/0 or 6/0. Our Fino is perfectly suited to size 6/0s and thus that is what will be included in your kit.
Again, we'll make sure you have more than the minimum needed.
You will notice that in our photos of these yarns we scattered beads to give you a feel for the look. Those beads are Miyuki's Transparent Gray Rainbow Luster, a beautiful clear gray bead with rainbow highlights that picks up the hues in both colorways beautifully.
If that is definitely the color bead you would like, do make sure to let me know via the Comments section as you check out. Or tell me whatever preference you might have. Otherwise I will choose for you and it might or might not be these -- I love to play around with colors.
Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Kristina via her Ravelry web page.
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do so right before I ship your kit).
This is a real beauty. Fun to knit, gorgeous to wear.
