A wonderful knitting technique, shadow knitting allows you to create designs which change, depending on how one views them. Using this Shadow technique, Maureen takes the knitter through all the bits and pieces necessary to create a wonderful shawl.

This is a fun, easy-to-knit shawl to snuggle into!

It is knit side-to-side using only one color per row. This shawl uses shadow knitting techniques to create chevron stripes. Picot edging and garter stitch border along the neck edge are knit in as you go -- so that when you're done, you're done!

Block and enjoy watching the chevron shadow pattern appear and disappear as you wear this cozy wrap.

Level: Intermediate.

Size: after blocking, shawl measures approximately 31" deep. Top width measures approximately 74".

Plan on fingering weight yarn, about 150 grams of the main solid color (which is roughly 525 yards) and 200 grams (about 700 yards) of the second hand-painted hue.

The gauge gotten with size 4.5mm needles (US size 7) was 20 stitches and 34 rows to 10cm (4"). The yarn is purposely knit at a looser gauge than normal so that the shawl will drape nicely.

Lovely and most intriguing.
