This is just perfect!

A lightweight beauty, knit of lace weight yarn, here is Sleeping Princess, by Nim Teasdale. Here is how Nim describes it:

Sleeping Princess is ... two designs in one - one for the princess, one for the veil enchantment that made her sleep and dream for so many years.

The two patterns can be worked together in a single shawl, in any way you please, (repeated, extended or alternated) or as two complementary shawls that can be worn together.

Play with colour combinations: perhaps a dark veil over a light princess or vice versa, or perhaps two bright colours used together.

Or experiment with layered textures like a delicately beaded silken veil over a soft woolen under-shawl.

She also wrote, on her personal projects page:

In my sample I’ve used soft dreamy fairytale colours, but there is lots of opportunity to get creative and make something more dynamic, for example:

a dark veil over a light underdress or vice versa

a variegated over a solid

similar colours in contrasting textures.

The pattern uses two small, simple, repeatable charts which can be worked in either order, or used alternately.

This princess was knit in under 24 hrs (yay!), and very well suited to distracted, conversational knitting it turns out, as most of it was done during a Christmas party! :) The veil is also quick as it’s worked on large needles, stretches quite a bit, and works well if it’s a little smaller than the under layer.

*****

The original shawls shown here were kit using 200-240 yards of lace weight yarn (the undershawl using th e larger amount) so you will have plenty for however you choose to make this truly your own creation.

Nim also did a quick bead calculation --- for the veil if you do all over lace, the most you will need for 8 repeats is 120 beads..
