I really love this one.

Jane Thornley creates amazing designs -- unusual and tremendous fun to knit.  This one is a fast knit as well and one that just cries out for embellishments.

The Design

Here's how Jane describes this beauty:

It’s a vest or a scarf or both in two versions – The Pasha’s Investment and the Sultan’s Investment – both fabulous accessories which can be worn like vests, scarves, or even belts.

Glam up any festive outfit by wearing one over a blouse or a basic tee. Consider the rear view as either plain or dramatic – with long i-cord dangles or with a softly-curved, corded, drape – and mix up the options. These designs are simply blank slates for exploration and experimentation.

And these are easy and quick projects to knit using size 5mm/8 US needles and a single hank of one of those lovely variegated yarns that lure us on from the yarn store shelves.

A single, glorious skein will do the trick. Just add about 25 yards of two or more supporting players and you’re set. Why not knit gifts for the holidays in a yarn that keeps you happy? Personally, silk makes me very happy but so does any beautiful fibre. Use your favorite.

A small investment, then, in both price and time that offers huge dividends. Here’s a scarf with serious vest leanings or a vest that aspires to be a scarf.

Either way, each design unfolds around a single hank of hand-dyed loveliness with mere scraps to pick up the colors along the way. Or something from your stash.

Add an ornamental button, scarf pin, beads, or even a broach and viola! Something gorgeous this way comes.

Consider your options limitless.

Yarn and Colorways

We brought in some delightful yarn from Lana Grossa called Colorissimo.  These cakes of yarn (yup, they are already wound for you) are made up of 100% merino and about 330 yards (300m) / 100g.  It is classified as DK weight.

This is not the same yarn as what Jane used for her original pieces.  Ours are shown via the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.

The colorways are dyed in a very intriguing  way.  They are dyed in such a manner as to create beautifully spans and stripes of color.  Take a look at the sample "swatch" below the yarn cake shown in our photos.

Mississippi is a cool melody of teals and grays primarily.

Note that this kit does not (not!) include 25 yards of "supporting players" of a different yarn (as Jane describes them; she suggests two or more).  I am sure that as knitters you have many small quantities of yarn hanging around that you could add to this piece for additonal fun.  However, if I am wrong, all you need do is contact me and I'll work with you to find a special something that you can add to your Small Investiments.

Beads and Bling

Fun fun fun fun!

Jane talks about adding "... an ornamental button, scarf pin, beads, or even a broach..."  So we decided to make it easy!

Each kit will include a small packet of intriguing beads, large or small, plus a surprise or two (buttons perhaps? or maybe a small bell?).

The pattern is not automatically part of the kit.

Some knitters prefer getting their patterns via Ravelry and indeed, you can get the pattern on this Ravelry page. This will give you a copy in your Ravelry library. In this case, set the drop-down menu above to "No Pattern Needed."

If you would prefer a printed copy or a PDF via email, please select that option via the "Pattern" drop-down menu. The PDF file will be emailed right before your kit is shipped.

And now!  Ladies and Gentlemen, start your needles!
