In honor of the snow and ice currently gracing our fair land, we offer kits for this striking and well-beaded shawl. :-)
A beautiful concoction from Boo-Knits, this one reminds me of a fine confection, a delicate spun sugar creation or perhaps ice crystals dancing.
Called SnowAngel, here is how Bev describes it:
This little crescent shaped shawl has been designed to be knit in laceweight yarn giving you a fine and open lace with beads that float in the fabric like ice crystals.
The lace pattern and shape of the shawl reminds me of when my children were small and we used to make angels in the snow. Okay, maybe we still do it but I guess you could keep my secret!
The shawl could also be knit in fingering weight but a less lacy effect will be produced.
Knit from the top down, with an adjustable stocking stitch body before lace section you have the versatility to be able to knit your shawl to a size that suits you. The shawl shown was knit as directed in this pattern and was blocked like a demon - a gentler blocking will produce a more gentle effect.
This pattern contains charts and also full written instructions. The beading is, as always, optional.
Yarn and Colorway
Our kits do not offer the same yarn as Bev used in her original. You can see what we have in the inset photo on the upper left-hand corner of the top picture and again below that.
The top photo and the last few on this page is the shawl as knit by Mindy (aka StormyK9 on Ravelry) and used with her permission. I felt they show the delicacy and glory of Bev's design most beautifully.
We also show some of Bev's photos on this page, though many other of the other photos in the Project Pages are well worth looking at to see how the design comes together.
Our yarn is from Manos and is the lace weight Marina, 100% merino superwash with 874 yards (800m) per 100g skein.
The colorway is Luna, a delicious tonal almost-solid blend of greys, from pale to deeper and with a smattering of lilac.
Bev recommends either size 5/0 triangles or size 6/0 seed beads, even though this is a fine yarn. They will stand out beautifully, needing between 530 and 650 beads depending on which size shawl you choose to make. As one skein of Marina gives you a bit more than enough for the largest size, we'll include enough beads for that as well (650).
If you have a preference on bead color let me know; otherwise I will choose for you.
Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Boo Knits via the Ravelry web page.
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and I usually email it right before I send out your kit).
This is gorgeous. No question about it.
