A beautiful lace shawl by Boo Knits, Spellbound is part of her Things Unknown - Dream Collection.
Please be sure to get the pattern directly from Boo Knits' Ravelry page. This link takes you to the single pattern, which will then be stored in your Ravelry library.
We do not have the pattern as part of this kit. What we do have here is the yarn and beads for making a beautiful piece.
Here is what Bev writes:
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Titania, Queen of the Faeries, Mistress of Mystery and Possessor of Beauty. Oh how I would love to be Titania!
Spellbound captures the essence of this Faery Queen and her woodland world. The main body of the shawl is full of leafy crowns that lead they eye down to the sumptuous and decadent beaded border with dramatic points.
The size as written (measured on the lace version and will depend on your blocking technique) – 22 inches (56 cm) deep and 83 inches (211 cm) wide. Note that this pattern is easily adaptable.
The pattern is both written and fully charted with bead placement indicated throughout.
The Yarn and Colorways
Our kits have a different yarn (and decidedly different colors) than what Bev used in her original. You can see what we offer in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.
The pattern calls for slightly-heavy-ish lace weight yarn that has roughly 765 yards (about 700m) per 100g.
The original shawl used about 560m of yarn -- that's roughly 613 yards.
Our yarns are of a delicious lace weight yarn called Sea Silk which is made up of 51% Silk/ 29% Merino Wool/ 20% Sea Cell™. Each of our sets was dyed speciallly by Kelly of The Unique Sheep and is composed of four small skeins, 219 yards/ 25g so the total per set is rouglhly 876 yards/ 100g.
Sea Cell is eco-friendly fabric made from seaweed. Developed by Nanonic Inc, a small percentage of the plant is mixed with cellulose, putting it in the same family as lyocell. The type of seaweed used, known as brown algae, is certified organic.
The yarn has a really great feel and look to it -- a lovely glow and a smooth and delicious hand.
We wanted to go with subtle colors, changing slowly.
1. Denim Friendly is sort of a monochromatic Gradiance set, if that makes sense. Based on the blues of jeans, it runs from a sky blue into a denim blue into a soft indigo blue. (Sorry, sold out)
2. This custom version of The Dragon Awakes takes the cool sections of red into wine into violet of the original colorway and creates again an almost-monochromatic blending that goes gently into a whole.
Bev's original shawl used 775 beads for the lace version as written. Should you choose to knit the stocking stitch version you'd need an extra 80 beads, for a total of 855. She recommends either size 6/0s or 5/0 triangles.
Now that is a lot of beads for lace weight yarn and if you would prefer to get the smaller 8/0s, just let me know.
The "default" kit will give you about 75 grams of size 6/0 beads, which will give you approximately 900 beads.
If you have a preference on bead color or a different idea for what you want, again just let me know and I'll work with you -- we want you to be very pleased.
