This is so wonderful; I simply couldn't resist it.

And if you are sitting here scratching your head and wondering what this is about then I highly (highly!) recommend going to Netflix and watching Season One and then Season Two  of their show called Stranger Things.  Absolutely superb.

For those of us already captivated,  Mary Annarella of Lyrical Knits has created a wonderful wonderful design.

Please note that we are not carrying the pattern -- you must get that from the designer herself via her Ravelry web page. What we offer here is a wonderful kit to knit it in.

Mary writes:

Stranger Things are about to be on your needles…Make one for yourself, or for your favorite fan of the show.

Knit entirely in the round, the outer colorwork pattern is worked first, and features an alphabet lined up with a string of Christmas lights. The chart for the inner portion of the cowl inverts the MC and CC for what becomes the Upside Down version of the same alphabet design.

Use duplicate stitch with scraps of brightly colored yarn to light up whichever letters you choose. Have fun--and Run!

The cowl is written to be knit stranded and as such is not a simple knit.

(Alternatively, just as a thought, I would think one could use the chart and the double-knitting technique and get a similar look. The alphabet would be mirror-image instead of upside down.)

The Yarn

We have different fingering weight yarn than what Mary used in her original. We put together two color combos we like for the cowl itself.

Madeline Tosh has just released two new colorways based on the show.  One is called Eleven Light and one is Eleven Dark, and again, if this means nothing to you I highly recommend watching.

The yarn is Tosh Merino Light, 100% merino wool with 420 yards (384m) per skein.

As what is needed is approximately 290 yards each of the MC and the CC in fingering weight yarn one skein of each will be included in the kit.

Mary used a light grey and a dark grey.  You can see what we offer in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.

This is what is in our kit:

1.  Eleven Light is on a cream base with dots and dashes and speckles of purple, light and dark (mostly)

2.  Eleven Dark is the opposite (ha!) and plays with what is speckled in the Eleven Light.  This is a tonal blend of varying purples, some lighter and some darker.

Beads?

Not exactly. But yes.

The design calls for periodic duplicate stitching for coloring in some of the Christmas lights.  This kit will not include any scraps of colored yarn to do this with.

However it occurred to me;

One could simply place colored beads in appropriate places.

So every kit will include about 10 to 20 size 6/0 beads in bright rainbow colors to add to the cowl where you would like to emphasize the light.
