Another stunning design by Rose Beck for a wonderful shawl, Sugared Violets.

Plus! We have something extra special to offer on this pattern.

When we saw beads had been added to one version of this shawl and that they looked so marvelous (see the second photo below) we queried Rose on this. And she went out of her way to write up added instructions for enhancing this beauty further with beads, in a form both written out and charted.

I am so delighted to be able to offer this here! Big smiles!

Here is what Rose writes about this pattern, which she had originally designed as the fifth and final shawl of her Be Mine collection, "a set of floral-inspired shawlettes designed to be both simple and sweet" :

"I have a lovely knitting friend who loved the crescent shape of Sugar Is Sweet and the floral mesh border of Violets Are Blue--thus Sugared Violets was born. The top-down body is worked in stockinette and is graced by single eyelet ridges before the Fleurette border.

"Samples are shown in fingering weight yarn, but any weight yarn may be used (adjust yardage accordingly). The size is easily adjusted by changing the size of the body or by adding additional rows of Fleurette mesh."

This one is so lovely -- the simplicity of design, the wonderful crescent shape, and now the addition of beads.

Yum!

BTW, written instructions are used, with a schematic chart of the Fleurette repeat for reference.

Rose rates the skill level needed as Easy.

APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS: 56 (60) inches across wingspan x 15 (17) inches deep

You will want to use fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi) yarn. You'll be going for a gauge of 20 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette using a needle size US 6 - 4.0 mm or whatever works to get you this.

Yardage needed in fingering weight is 430 - 550 yards (393 - 503 m).

The beading instructions that Rose sent us adds about 150 to 200 of size 6/0 beads, depending on the size stole one makes.

As a special gift from us and because we are delighted that Rose has added this great option for us, we will include the 6/0 beads to make this beauty if you purchase the pattern at the same time as enough fingering weight yarn to make it with. We'll choose the bead colors for you based on the yarn you choose, though if you have a particular look you are going for be sure to tell us using the "Comments" section as you check out.
