A really special hat by Inese Iris Liepina, this Sun & Moon Hat is a double-knit piece, totally reversible, with one side showing a delicate pistachio green as the background color and the other showing the slf-striping Uneek yarn colorway as the back ground.

I love it!

Be sure to get your pattern from the designer, either via her Ravelry page or via her website. We have put together kits of the same yarns and colorways she selected for her original.

The Design

Here is what Inese writes:

Latvia is so far north that the sun and moon seem to go around in the sky.

The sun wheel shows this movement, and when the sun alternates with the moon in the wheel time expands, day becomes night, life has an afterlife. This is the power of the universe, pulsating movement that alternates between static (a cross) and dynamic (diagonal cross or X) at the center. The center is the present where the past and future connect. Mandalas with the sun and moon offer magical protection.

I added the vibrating movement that is often woven into linen fabric to pulsate this magic into your being.

Yarn and Colorways

Again, this is data from the designer:

Materials:

MC - 50-60g, Urth Harvest Fingering Pistacio
CC - 50-60g, Urth Uneek Fingering 3017

Dimensions:
XS - fits 20” - 21.5” / 51cm - 54,5cm head
S/M - fits 21.5” - 23” / 54,5cm - 58,5cm head
L/XL - fits 23”- 24.5” / 58,5cm - 62cm head
Height: brim to edge of crown - 7.5” / 19cm
The knit fabric will stretch by 1/3, the hat is deep and it is best to knit a smaller size so it does not slip down over your eyes.

Our kits consist of one skein each of:

1.  Urth Harvest Fingering in Pistachio, a lovely pale green.  Each skein is made up of 100% superwash merino, with 435 yards/ 100g skein.  The dyes in the Harvest Fingering created naturally using a variety of fruits, roots and nuts.

2. Urth Uneek Fingering (same fiber content, same yardage), a self-striping yarn.  The colorway is not named, only numbered: this is the same #3017 that Inese used in her original.   I see a lot of blues from navy through to pale, plus deep red, amber and some strips of gold.
