Lucy writes, "Knit this warm winter hat using two-color double-knitting with paired decreases.
Intended to keep the ears of the one who shovels your snow (or whatever outdoor chore or activity) warm, this hat puts four layers of good merino wool between you and the icy winds (it works for sheep).
Lucy calls this the ultimate warm hat.
"Although not a quick knit, this makes excellent carry-around knitting for the ardent knitter. The interconnected two-layer fabric is made using a basic double-knitting technique."
Yarn: Fingering -- you will want two colors, with roughly 50 grams giving about 175 yards (160 m) of yarn. The main color uses 75 (75, 100) grams and the Contrast color 75 (75, 100 grams)
Size: Small (child), Medium and Large adult sizes.
Needles: 2.5, (US #1) 40 - 50 cm circular needles plus dpns for the crown. May be also be worked on one or more long circular needles.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Techniques: Two color, two-layer stocking stitch with shapings.
Lucy writes very detailed patterns that teach as you go along. We have no reservations about recommending any of her designs and this one looks like it will not only make a great hat but you will learn quite a bit as you go.
