Sometimes small and fast knits that would make for perfect gifts are the perfect knitting project as well.
Here is The Swoopsie Mitts by Jennifer Adair, a pair of wonderful beaded fingerless gloves that will be fun to make as well!
Make sure to get your pattern directly from the designer on her Ravelry page here. This web page is for various yarn and bead combos to knit these with.
The pattern has charts as well as full written directions.
Here is what Jennifer writes:
The Swoopsie Mitts are a pair of twisted stitch lace wrist warmers that coordinate with Swoopsie. Like the shawl, they can be beaded or not, and are part of my Entwined Lace series.
Purchase of any pattern in the series includes a free copy of The Entwined Lace Mitts, a set of twisted stitch lace wrist warmers. This pattern includes several pages of background on twisted stitch lace, beading, cast ons and bind offs appropriate for the lace, chart symbols, abbreviations, and terms used in the Entwined Lace patterns.
The Yarn and Colorways
We have for these kits a different yarn than what Jennifer used for her original. Ours can be seen in the small inset photo (bottom right) on the top picture on this page and again the four photos below that in more detail.
What is needed is a fingering weight/ sport weight yarn, 90 - 110 yards (82 - 101 m).
The yarn we have for these kits are Merino Mia from Prism Yarns. Each skein is 190 yards/ 2 oz of 100% merino wool. Thus one skein will be in each kit, giving you plenty for one set and very likely enough for two.
The colorways are all tonal -- they are variegated, some more subtly than others, all with the same overall colors playing together.
Sky is a play on blues and teals in a beautifully blended look. Gentle and cool.
Fog is a play on grays and closer scrutiny shows violets peeking in amongst the pale gray, medium gray, and charcoal. Lovely!
Ebony looks at first glance like a simple black but it is actually amde up of variations tonally, with some deep charcoal mixing in as well to add to the depth. Dramatic!
Smoke might be my favorite of these, and is the most variegated. It includes black and gray and purple and nav. Quite striking indeed!
Though the beads are optional, each kit will include at least 150 size 6/0 beads.
We might give you beads that contrast strongly (Silver Lined Crystal would look great with any of these) or that blend a bit into the colors of the yarn.
If you have a color preference, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
