This hat really sings to me!

The Taconic Hat was designed by Tina Whitmore, the genius behind Freia Fibers.

The pattern should be gotten directly from her, either via Ravelry or via her website We have put together kits using the same yarns and colorways that she chose for her original.

The Design

Here is how Tina describes it:

This is a hat knit in the round in a tube shape, beginning at the crown with your cast on, increasing to full width and then commencing a short row pattern.

The short rows naturally give a 3 dimensional aspect to the hat making it “bubbly”.

The pattern gives you lots of data, and directions for two sizes.

Tina further writes:

Upon completion of all the short row repeats you will begin the decrease at the opposite crown. This will create an oblong oval shape. Finally to finish, fold one end in the other to create a double thickness, reversible hat.

Yarn and Colorways

Tina's original used four different colorways of her Fingering Minikins, 100% merino, with each giving 107 yards (98 meters)  per 25g.

The photos you see here show the hat as knit in Shown here in Woodsman (A), Harvest (B), Kelp Forest (C) and Water Lilies(D).

One minikin of each of these colorways will make up each kit.
