We are so delighted to have found this beautiful pattern!
Take Flight is a glorious shawl, with sparkling beads created by Kristi of Kreations by Kristi --- an absolutely gorgeous play of stitches and beads, creating a crescent shaped lace shawl with knit-on edgings (a choice of two, so you can choose exactly what appeals to you).
Just look at the photos here -- they will give you a far better idea of this beauty than my words ever could.
Kristi recommends between 450 and 750 yards of either lace weight or fingering weight yarn to make this stunning creation, depending on the size you are going for and the yarn characteristics.
She rates it as having medium difficulty due to patterning on the wrong side of the shawl in the body --- otherwise it’s very intuitive and easy to follow either the charts or written row by row instructions. Cindersall had told me that she felt it would be a great project for those new to knitted lace that has stitch work on both sides -- well-written and a great finished piece to work towards.
The shawl is made by knitting top down forming a versatile crescent shape.
You might like to knit the x-small to use as a scarf or go large for that lovely evening wrap. There are four size possibilities offered in this design. Plus beads --- which are optional but a lovely addition. Bead placement is easily customized -- the beads are added via the crochet-hook method.
If you want to, you might add a contrasting color for added pizazz in your choice of the knit-on edgings. You can see some ideas in the photos here.
If you are not sure which size you are able to make with the yarn quantity you have available, here are some general percentages to use:
Body Pattern = 42% of total yarn for shawl
Border Pattern = 37% of total yarn for shawl
Edging I = 21% of total yarn for shawl
Body Pattern = 40% of total yarn
Border Pattern = 36% of total yarn
Edging II = 24% of total yarn
Be aware that you need a very thin crochet hook (or equivalent) to slide the beads into place as you are knitting. (We carry these crochet hooks on our site , if you need them.)
This is a wonderful design.
What we offer on this web page is a hard copy of the pattern, all pages printed out and slid into a sheet protector -- plus the option to create-your-own kit by taking advantage of our bead offer mentioned above!
