This is a true smile-maker. And while it might not be cold enough for hat in your part of the world right now, I have it on good authority that winter will return. :-) Not only that, this would make for a great gift if you want to get a head-start on the gifting season.
Make sure to get your pattern directly from the designer, Belinda, on her Ravelry page here. What we offer is yarn and beads to make this hat with!
Here is what Belinda writes:
If you love sparkle this is the hat for you!
The Punk Rock Princess Hat layers the glitz by combining a fingering weight yarn with glass beads to bring a simple, symmetrical pattern to life.
It is the perfect hat for when you want to add a little twinkle to dreary winter days. The weight of the glass beads gives the hat an elegant drape without making it heavy to wear.
A straightforward construction consisting of knitting in the round, basic decreases and beading is suitable for adventurous beginners or relaxing for experienced knitters. No experience knitting with beads is necessary, I have included a link to my favorite beading tutorial to make it simple.
You will be a beading expert by the time you finish this hat!
Yarn and Colorways
We do not offer kits using the same yarn as what Belinda used for her original. You can see what we have in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.
Our yarn is a fingering weight from Juniper moon Farm called Moonshine Fine. Made up of 30% baby alpaca+ 30% wool + 25% nylon + 15% silk, it has a really delicious hand. And as each skein gives 437 yards (400m), one is more than enough for a hat (maybe even two).
We put together two interesting yarn + bead combos:
1. Colorway #1001 (aka Cocoa) is a very dark almost-black. Despite its name, it looks to my eye more as a dark charcoal than anything in the brown family.
With it (in the photo on this page) we show Silver Lined Crystal 6/0 beads, a dramatic contrast that will give a look very similar to Belinda's original hat.
2. Colorway #1003 (Moonbeam) is a cream. I love how it looks in a mix of bright bead colors, a rich combination that sings of rainbows and flowers and happy times. (Especially suited for those of us who aren't quite punk but love beads and colors.)
The hat requires size 6/0 beads, 901 of them for the larger size. We will include at least that many.
(If you want enough beads for two hats of the smaller size, you would need 1,484 beads total. Contact me and we'll work with you to set up a special kit for you.)
If you have a particular idea for bead colors, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you and it will likely be similar to what I described above and that you see in these photos.
