The Unique Sheep - Fingering Weight Yarns

by

The Unique Sheep carries a number of fingering weight yarns and there are a few additional ones which are Earth Faire exclusives.

Any of these can be ordered through us.

1. Verve2 is 100% Superwash Merino Wool with a 100g set = 400 yards.
Can be seen in these kits:
Earthbound Misfit
Gathering Autumn's Splendor

2. Tinsel Toes is 50% Superwash Merino, 50% Tencel. A 100 gram set = 368 yards.
Can be seen in this kit:
Earthbound Misfit

3. Sushi Socks is 60% Superwash Merino, 30% Bamboo, 10% Nylon and again 100g = 368 yards.

4. Pashmi is a bit more expensive as it is 80/10/10 Superwash Merino, Cashmere and Nylon. Each 100g set will give you about 435 yards.

5. Green Sheep Fingering is made up of 100% Organic superfine merino and gives 500 yards per 100 grams.

6. Green Sheep Cotton Bamboo is 51% combed organic cotton, 49% bamboo rayon and 100g gives you 440 yards.

7. Marici Fingering is again more expensive -- it is made up of 100% Spun Silk and feels phenomenal. The yardage for 100g is 444 yds.

8 & 9. Sol or Luna: These are Earth Faire exclusives and a bit more expensive. Fiber-wise the yarn is 75% superwash Merino, 20% nylon, 5% Stellina. The merino is springy and delicious, the nylon adds strength. Stellina is a non-metal fiber. You will have either a silver-toned fiber (in Luna) or a goldtone version (in Sol).
A set of 100g will give you 436 yards.

Can be seen in this kit:
Thirteenth Moon

10. Nimbus (another EarthFaire exclusive) is a 100% Superwash Blue Faced Leicester (BFL) yarn. Not quite as fine as merino though plenty soft enough for next-to-skin wear. What it does have that merino doesn't is a lovely drape and even a shine. A shawl of BFL will swing and sway as you walk. And the scales of this wool, being shaped differently, reflect the light and gives quite a lovely look indeed.
A 100 gram set will give your roughly 436 yards.
Can be seen in this kit:
Iridescence Shawl

11. Leeana (an EarthFaire exclusive, named after a silver and white moon dragon whose wings are flecked with silver and with a silver mane) is a 51/49 blend of cultivated silk/ merino (just a bit more silk than merino). The best of both fibers, this has some of the memory/bounce from the merino with the beautiful shine that comes from silk.
There are about 400 yards per 100g, + or - a bit.

Can be seen in this kit:
Dance of the Dryads

12. Kiri is a tussah silk and superwash merino fingering weight yarn. The 4-ply structure produces a smooth, round yarn with a soft but firm hand. The 20% Tussah Silk is well blended without any slubs. The silk adds a nice bit of luster without being shiny. This knits up great for lace patterns because it has a beautiful drape, excellent stitch definition and it blocks well. It takes dye well --- the colors come out a bit more muted than on Pashmi or Verve.
Four ounces (a bit heavier than 100g) will give 434 yards + or -.
Can be seen in these kits:
Bitterblue Beaded Shawl
Aliseda Shawl
Dance of the Dryads
Earthbound Misfit
Wavily Special Kits

13. Squish: This yarn has a wonderful hand, composed of a blend of 60% merino/ 20% alpaca/ 20% nylon. It has a delicious squishiness to it and a softness tempered with the memory that is characteristic of wool. It is plied and will show stitch work beautifully.
436 yards/ 100g

14. Linen Silk Fingering Weight is a new one with a fiber content of 65% Silk, 35% Linen and 437yd/100g.
The Linen/Silk blend dyes up unevenly with the silk bits dyeing darker giving a two tones, slightly heathered appearance. Dark colors will come out less saturated on this yarn since the linen portion doesn't take the dye strongly. This yarn is naturally slightly slubby, giving it a wonderful natural texture. Unlike some linen yarns, this yarn is soft to the touch from the beginning and only becomes softer with use.

There is a great write-up by Kelly about many of these yarns here which you might find very helpful.
