This is a lovely knitted necklace, which encircles your neck with glorious beads and top it off with a focal piece of the Tree of Life.
If these look somewhat familiar, you are right: we used to carry a variation of these called the Autumn Amulet, way-back-when, with focal pieces of carved jade amulets. Alas, those pieces are long gone and no longer available, and since then I have been on a hunt for something that appealed to me as well.
Unfortunately we have a very limited number of these Tree of Life pendants; and I am not sure how easy it would be to find more. So if this appeals, realize that my saying "Limited Edition" here is very true.
Made with three related colorways of 8/0 beads and a complimentary 4x7mm long magatama bead, the piece is finished off with a striking tree amulet.
The main photo you see here was created with variations of deep topaz and gold beads. I also think this could look excellent with the slightly more silver-y look of crystal marea, a bead color which mixes silvers with bright gold in a most brilliant way.
The closure is a magnetic clasp --- gives a great look while adding ease in putting the necklace on and taking it off.
Each kit will include at least 12 grams of a mix of size 8/0 beads (the golden one you see here used Silver lined Dark Topaz AB, Transparent Topaz AB, and Silver Lined Dark Gold AB, the mix adding an intriguing depth to the look -- the alternative would have a mix of 8/0s in crystal marea, silver lined crystal ab, and silver lined gold ab), plus about 12 grams or more of the long magatamas (the golden necklace used Matte Transparent Dark Topaz AB -- the alternate silvery one would use long megatamas in Crystal Marea), and a lovely gold-and-silver tone tree of life pendant piece.
The thread is Kreinik's metallic in gold for the original one with silver or a silver/gold mix for the second chice. Your kit might have a 20 meter spool or two 10m ones; either will work beautifully for this. The necklace as you see it here measures 18" around, not counting the focal piece -- you will have enough of everything to make it longer if you so choose.
The magnetic clasp is also part of the kit. The only thing not included is the knitting needles -- we used size 0s.
Note though that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. We offer three options.
I know some of you might already have made similar necklaces from us that are made along the same lines. If you feel you do not need another pattern, simply choose "No Pattern Needed."
If you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you, though I have to do it manually and usually send it right before I mail the kit (please be patient). Just make sure that drop-down menu is set as you would like before you check out.
The pattern uses short rows to create a subtle curve, and comes with instructions for the order in which to string the beads. We changed a few parts of our original pattern to create something we thought lays very nicely indeed.
This particular necklace was knit in two pieces with a seam at the center to help support the added weight (though light) of the amulet. You might choose to make it in one piece -- knitter's choice.
We are very pleased with this -- the look and the feel are both lovely enough to wear to a ballroom. BTW, we were surprised to find that the finished piece weighed only 1 1/2 ounces. So it will be comfortable as well.
Perfect for your neck or as a gift, this is fun to make.
