By Debra Gerhard , of Spruce Lane Designs, Treis looks like great fun -- perfect for summer knitting or really for anytime. And a joy to wear!

The Design

Here is what Debra writes:

Variegated skeins are so beautiful to look at, but not always easy to work with. Their uniqueness lends to their beauty, but also necessitates alternating skeins to avoid pooling or differences in dyeing.

I wanted a shawl that highlighted these skeins; yet allowed for simplicity in the knitting (i.e. no alternating necessary). Thus, I designed Treis; a shawl that consists of two variegated skeins and a contrasting semisolid skein.

It is a simple, asymmetric triangle with mostly garter stitch that highlights the “twists and turns” of the yarns’ palette followed by a simple lace section to show off the semisolid.

The Yarn and Colorways

Our kits are made up of different yarns and colors than Debra's original pieces.  You can see our offerings in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.

We have put together two kits with very different color combos for you to choose from.

Kit A:

1.  The variegated yarn is from Louisa Harding, her Pittura, 75% wool/ 25% viscose (which gives it a great sheen), and each is pre-wound with 437 yards (400m) per 100g disk. Each colorway of Pittura is based upon a classic art work, a painting usually.

This colorway is called Water Lilies, and I believe is based upon Monet's Water Lily series -- he painted hundreds of awesome pieces based on water lilies.  It is a gorgeous blend of mostly varying blues with violet and purple as well as a few streaks fo gold and cream. (Two per kit)

2. The almost-solid yarn is Madeline Tosh's Tosh Mo Light, 80% superwash merino/ 20% kid mohair and with 420 yards (364m)/ 100g skein.  The colorway is Antler, a mostly cream with some subtle washes of greys within. (One per kit)

Kit B:

1. Again Pittura, this time the colorway is based onthe painting by Fragonard called The Swing.  It is a melody of woodlands and forest, to my eye.  I see varying greens including lime, chartreuse, true green and evergreen, as well as some orange and amber and teal and cream and grey. (Two per kit)

2. The contrast skein is Malabrigo's Sock, 100% superwash merino, with 440 yards/ 100g.  The colorway is called Pearl, a cool grey.  (One per kit)
