Svetlana Gordon is one of my favorite designers. She comes up with designs that are so very unique and yet she manages to put together instructions which are easy to follow.
Recently she offered three new and quite unusual patterns via her Ravelry shop. The one called Turban appeals to me as a great starting point.
Please be sure to get the pattern directly from the designer here. What we offer is simply two skeins of yarn we chose that would work beautifully with this.
Svetlana's original hat was knit using less than one skein each of two colors of Malabrigo's Mechita (100% superwash merino, 420 yards per 100g skein). She chose Hojas, a variegated blend of greens and blues and Eggplant, a very deep dark purple almost-solid.
As you know, Malabrigo yarns are handpainted and thus each set looks somewhat different. And, alas, I wasn't able to get those exact yarns and yet wanted to bring in pairs that would work well together.
We put together a different color combo for you to choose from that looks superb to my eye.
Our kit includes Mechita as well as Sock, also 100% superwash merino with 440 yards/ 100g, the main difference being that Sock is plied. The folks at Malabrigo say these (Mechita and Sock) are interechangeable.
1. In Sock: Archangel is a variegated blend of bright colors including yellow, amber, orange, strawberry, lime, and purple.
2. In Mechita, Eggplant is the same deep dark purple that Svetlana used. I found I really like it with Archangel. None of Archangel's match this exactly but they all work beautifully with it.
So your kit will consist of one skein each of Archangel and Eggplant. And many hours of knitting joy.....
