Jane Thornley continues to expand her repertoire of free-range knitting designs -- and she has just released this marvelous collection of three intriguing vests.

I quote Jane here:

Three vests, one inspiration: the endlessly fascinating country of Turkey with 30 pages in all.

The Topaki vest, inspied by the tiles in the Tokapi palace's famed tiles, is a loose easy fit of all over lace panels with a textured yoke. Fastened by three buttons on the yoke, the vest has straight seams and a drop-shouldered sleeve perfect for donning over sweaters. Skill level: medium.

Arasta is named after the outdoor market in Istanbul where rugs and fabulous Turkish treasures are sold . Slightly fitted, this beauty features an all over lace pattern reminiscent of Turkish Textiles with textured borders like Turkish carpets. The side is expandable to fit most sizes.

Cappadocia is a bolero-style vest with a lovely lace panel in the back, shaped sides, and a front knit side-to-side in a soft rib to elongate the torso.

All designs work up on needle sizes raging from 5.5 (9 US to6.6 (US10.5) and love a mix of worsted-weight yarns.

Basically Jane gives you a very comprehensive recipe for creating, in which you can use whatever yarns strike your fancy -- the end result is very much your own and very much unique unto itself.

The photos here show some of the vests as Jane made them. The one in sunset colors is the Arasta; Topaki is the one in ranges of blues, and the Cappadocia is the one with soft bands of amber amidst sea greens.

Her designs are fun fun fun -- flowing and relaxing and beautiful.
