Our 11th special Club offering!
This is being presented as a Pre-Order. Select your yarn, select your colorway -- it will be dyed to your specifications. You can plan on this being ready for you in 6 to 8 weeks.
We are simply delighted to present a beautiful design by Chris of Ursa Major Knits, in special kits with yarns dyed by Kelly of The Unique Sheep.
Called Wavily, the pattern can be knit in a number of sizes. And to quote Chris:
The beauty of it is, that you can knit this with any yarn weight without having to do the math. You simply start and knit either 2 waves (small), 3 waves (medium), or four waves (large), before you continue. This way you won't have to knit a swatch and can decide on the go which size will be to your taste.
We have put together kits that will allow you to make the small size or the medium size. One of our test knitters (Keith) knit the smaller size and ended up with a fantastic scarf that he measures at 8" x 8'. (See last two photos on this page.)
Another test knitter, Carolyn, used the yarn set to make the medium size and her shawl's finished dimensions are 11" x 68" wingspan. (Also on this page, the Charmed colorway)
And Chris' piece was a bit wider and shorter than Carolyn's. :-)
The Yarn and Colorways
We offer two yarn choices.
Set the drop down menu labeled "Yarn" as you would like.
Kiri is a tussah silk and superwash merino fingering weight yarn. The 4-ply structure produces a smooth, round yarn with a soft but firm hand. The 20% Tussah Silk is well blended without any slubs. The silk adds a nice bit of luster without being shiney. This knits up great for lace patterns because it has a beautiful drape, excellent stitch definition and it blocks well.
Luna is an Earth Faire exclusive and a bit more expensive. Fiber-wise the yarn is 75% superwash Merino, 20% nylon, 5% Stellina. The merino is springy and delicious, the nylon adds strength. Stellina is a non-metal fiber, and in Luna it is silver in color.
We also offer two colorway choices.
Set the drop down menu labeled "Choices" as you would like.
Each set will consist of about 150g of a Gradiance set, divided into 6 smaller skeins plus a 150g skein of a contrast (solid) color.
Mermaid + Turquoise is the one which both Chris and Keith knit from. You can see photos on this page. The Mermaid is essentially our Mermaid's Bouquet colorway and runs from a teal into green into gold. The contrast colorway is an almost-solid Turquoise which adds to the sea motif most wonderfully.
Charmed + Violet is the one that Carolyn knit. Charmed is a new colorway for us and runs from a delicious apricot into strawberry and rose and ends up with a pink sorbet. The contrasting solid color is simply a Violet, a cousin that goes beautifully without blending.
Again: You must decide on your yarn and then on your colorway. From any of these choices you can make the small or the medium size of the shawl.
Please note that the pattern is a separate item from the kit.
Set the drop down menu labeled "Pattern" as you would like.
Chris will have the pattern available on Ravelry by mid-October. If you prefer it in your Ravelry library, then wait and get it from her. We'll put up a link when it is available there.
If you would rather not wait, we can print it out for you (16 pages) or email it to you before then. I will send it to you when your kit is ready, unless you tell me you'd like it even sooner.
I have set up a drop-down menu so you can choose your preference.
One more special:
Set the drop down menu labeled "Kit" as you would like.
If you would like a Bead Stew Bracelet kit specially created to match your Wavily colors, that option is also available.
