I fear that I have been neglecting our crocheters and for that I apologize.  When I came across this gorgeous Wheel of Time by Sue Stapleton of Auburncraft Crochet Design.  I knew this was one glorious kit to offer, first of more to come.

What we have put together is simply some yarn that we thought could work beautifully for this design, plus the option of adding beads.

The Design

Here is what Sue writes:

This whimsical shawl is designed to be enjoyable to make and unique to wear...

Those familiar with the writings of Robert Jordan will note the references to his works. I designed this shawl with this in mind.

The main body of the shawl is a pattern of repeating wheels. Small wheels dangle from the edge as though suspended in time! These differ in length and are held in place by the rows of cog like stitches!

Yarn and Colorways

Unfortunately we were unable to bring in the exact yarn that Sue used for her original piece.

I went hunting for a yarn that would work well.  I loved how her piece was composed of one slowly changing gradient but instead found one with looooooong color runs that I feel will also look great.

This yarn is from Univeral Yarn, their Colorburst.  It is 65% superwash merino + 35% acrylic and has a generous 660 yards per 200g ball.

As the wrap requires 831 - 875 yards (760 - 800 m), two balls will be in each kit!  So you will have more than enough yarn for this piece (and maybe a matching hat....?).

There are two colorways to choose from and yes, they are very different than the colors Sue chose.  These will add vibrant color sections, gradually changing throughout.

Aurora Borealis is a blend of cool teals, purples and charcoal.

Aries is a bit brighter with turquoise, violet and royal blue.

Beads??

No, there are no beads as part of this pattern.  But it occurs to me that perhaps a large 3/0 or 2/0 bead in the middle of each wheel could be a marvelous addition.

So we are adding that choice to our drop-down menu (under the top photo on this page) labeled "Kit".  Please make your selection from that.

We have a number of lovely beads in these larger sizes.  They aren't up on the website right now as they are being "saved" for kits.  If you have an idea of what color family you might want, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

(Just so you know,  20g container of size 2/0 beads will give you about 50 beads, and a 20g container of 3/0s will give you roughly 60 beads. A quick counting of "wheels' on Sue's original piece shows about 100 wheels so you would have to add a bead every-other one.  If you want a second bead container, contact me.  If I have stock we can set that up for  you.)

These will add some weight and heft to the ends of the shawl as they sparkle in the sun!
