We just had to bring this one back.
An awesome design by Mindy Ross, this one is typical Mindy: quite unique and different.
This is a real pleasure to knit.
Here is how Mindy describes this "thingie":
I’m sure a lot of us have done this. We’re knitting away, and the next thing we know, our minds have wandered off into some foreign atmosphere?
“Whispered Memories” is specifically designed to let our minds wander, as we build on each section.
This concept was designed for gradient color yarns... However, any fingering weight yarn will knit up beautifully, with lots of memories thrown in.
Starting with minimal stitches and working up to over 130 stitches on the needle, then decreasing as you drift away with this enjoyable journey. Just as our lives take twists and turns, this pattern blends portions of our lives with texture and style.
After completion, you’ll have “Whispered Memories” along YOUR Memory Lane, and a beautiful ‘thingie’ to adorn and enjoy.
And again, I quote Mindy's mantra: ~WEAR TO BE DIFFERENT~
This is basically a crescent shaped shawl with an amorphous shape, written with two versions depending on the amount of yarn you have. The size will vary depending on your yarn choice and your gauge, which is not critical at all. The average test knit came to a length between 64" and 72.5" (162.5 cm to 185 cm), a height from 21.5" to 23" (55 cm to 22.8 cm) and a narrow edge that was between 7.8" to 9" (20 cm to 22.8 cm).
Mindy suggests yarns that range from 400 yds (365.76 m) to 600 yds (549 m). The kits we have put together today use a different yarn and colorway -- you can see it in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that -- that works beautifully for this piece.
Our yarn is from Katia and named simply Infinity Scarf. This is a 100% pure merino wool, with 656 yards (600m) per 150 gram (that's roughly 5 1/3 ounces). It changes color gradually, and lends itself to a wonderful knit.
This colorway is not named, just called #300. It ranges from a soft gray heather, gradually deepening in tone into lilac and then lightening again into gray. A gentle colorway, quite subtle and really lovely. Use your imagination here.
One ball will be included in your kit.
Beads are totally optional for this beauty. If you should desire them, you have quite a few options.
You might like simply adding them to the edgings. For that you need only 85.
Or you might like to put them in every possible place that Mindy notes on the pattern -- for that you will need more than 500.
There are a huge number of bead colors that would "work" with each of these. Some might contrast, some might tend to blend into the yarn colors. As one example, I love gold beads with the October Breeze; you might prefer to emphasize the cooler parts of the colorway with blue beads perhaps.
If you have a preference, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you.
Each kit will automatically include the yarn plus more than enough 6/0 beads for the edges (85+).
If you want more than that, i.e. if you'd like the roughly 500+ 6/0 beads, we have set up a special drop-down menu to cover that. Simply make sure the drop-down menu labeled "Kit" is set so that you get the extra ones for the more beaded look.
Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.
Some knitters will prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Mindy via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed." And if you want the pattern saved in your Ravelry library, this is the way to go.
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that (it is a very comprehensive 8 pages, btw). We also can email the pattern to you (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and usually do that right before shipping your order).
A lovely knit; delightful to create, wonderful to wear.
