Another beauty by Marin Melchior, X-Wing is a play on short-rows that looks far more complex than it really is to knit.
Please be sure to get your pattern from the designer on her Ravelry page here. We have put together kits for you to create this with.
Here is what Marin writes;
This is designed as a scarf, but you could sew the ends and make a cowl or do whatever pleases you and works with the yarns you have and or use.
I designed it to use only one skein of each colorway needed. You could also make it longer buy purchasing/using more yarn.
It would also make a great ‘dresser scarf” or decorative, interior piece, in cotton or linen… many possibilities…
The Yarn and Colorways
We have changed somewhat the yarns and also the colors that Marin used in her original. We decribe your kits below and show photos in the inset picture on the first photo on this page and again below that.
The Uneek Fingering yarn from Urth is what Marin used as her main color. This is a hand-dyed self-striping extrafine merino with 435 yards/ 100g. The yarn changes colors gradually to give the look you see here.
We also have a Uneek Fingering as our main colorway.
CC: For the Contrast Color (CC) Marin used an almost-solid in varying tones of mushroom gray. She writes that all one needs is a solid or almost-solid colorway -- she used only 47g or 205 yards to complete her scarf.
MC: The Uneek Fingering is colorway #3017, which reminds me of the sky at sunset. It includes varying tones of blue and also reds and oranges and golds as well as a smattering of green and a bit of lilac. One skein per kit.
CC: This is from The Fibre Co, their Canopy with 50% alpaca/ 30% wool/ 20% viscose (also amazingly yummy to feel) and having 200 yards/ 50g.
The colorway is called Love in a Mist and is a delicious baby blue which looks great with the Uneek Fingering #3017.
This is the color that will be outlining the color spaces, replacing Marin's gray.
Important note: We feel that one skein might very well be quite enough -- Marin says she used 205 yards; this is 200 yards; she wrote 47g, this is 50g. The kits as they stand will have one skein. If you would rather two for comfort's sake, just let me know and we'll work out an expanded kit for you.
