Another beauty by Marin Melchior, X-Wing is a play on short-rows that looks far more complex than it really is to knit.
Please be sure to get your pattern from the designer on her Ravelry page here. We have put together kits for you to create this with.
Here is what Marin writes;
This is designed as a scarf, but you could sew the ends and make a cowl or do whatever pleases you and works with the yarns you have and or use.
I designed it to use only one skein of each colorway needed. You could also make it longer buy purchasing/using more yarn.
It would also make a great ‘dresser scarf” or decorative, interior piece, in cotton or linen… many possibilities…
The Yarn and Colorways
We have changed somewhat the yarns and also the colors that Marin used in her original. We decribe your kits below and show photos in the inset picture on the first photo on this page and again below that.
MC: Marin used as her main colorway (MC) the Uneek Fingering yarn from Urth --- a hand-dyed slef-striping extrafine merino with 435 yards/ 100g. Only one skein is needed, the full 435 yards having been used.
All of our kits use this same yarn as the MC; in fact our Kit A uses the same colorway that Marin used as well.
CC: For the Contrast Color (CC) Marin used an almost-solid in varying tones of mushroom taupe. All one needs is a solid or almost-solid colorway, though here Marin writes that she used only 47g or 205 yards to complete her scarf.
Kit A: (Sorry, sold out)
MC: Colorway #3012 in Uneek Fingering (the same as Marin used in the scarf you see pictured here). This one includes lime and turquoise, wine and violet and indigo, some taupe and a bit of a golden brown too.
CC: We have here a solid colorway from Juniper Moon Farms' Herriot Fine, 75% alpaca/ 25% nylon (amazingly delicious to the touch), with 461 yards/100g. The colorway is Silverstone, a lovely middle tone gray.
MC: The Uneek Fingering is colorway #3017, which reminds me of the sky at sunset. It includes varying tones of blue and also reds and oranges and golds as well as a smattering of green and a bit of lilac.
CC: This is from The Fibre Co, their Canopy with 50% alpaca/ 30% wool/ 20% viscose (also amazingly yummy to feel) and having 200 yards/ 50g. As this is a bit shy of what is needed, we will include two skeins in each kit. The colorway is called Love in a Mist and is a delicious baby blue which looks great with the Uneek Fingering #3017 if I do say so myself.
