Another wonderful Mystery KAL with The Unique Sheep!

This KAL begins March24, 2017

Signups will remain open until March 24.

However, we can only guarantee that your order will arrive before the KAL begins if you sign up before February 24!!

****

Important note:  this is a Pre-Order.  You select your colorway, you select your yarn, you select if you would like beads or not  --- and your kit is custom-dyed for you and specially set up.  This takes time.  You can be assured you will get it all before the start of the KAL as long as you order before the October 11th deadline.

****

Our next KAL is inspired by the Winnie the Pooh stories written by A. A. Milne.

Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Woods are some of the most iconic and beloved characters out of children's literature in the last century. Though the original books were written in 1920's the characters and stories have been given new life over the decades as they have been republished with new illustrations and turned into animated movies and tv shows complete with catchy tunes and memorable lyrics.

Designed by Janine le Cras, this rectangular bias-knit shawl is worked in fingering weight yarn and can be knit in any of our fingering weight bases.

Anything ordered via this web page will be assumed to be a Gradiance set unless you tell us otherwise.

The pattern will be emailed to you in pieces. On the first day you'll receive the instructions for the first part of the pattern. In the following weeks you'll receive the rest of the pattern, bit by bit. But you won't see a finished picture of the shawl until the very end!

We'd love to have you join us on this knitting adventure!

Announcements and conversation will take place on the Ravelry group board so please join us there! The designer (Janine le Cras) and the dyers (Kelly Eells and Laura Lough) will be active on this Ravelry board to answer questions about the pattern and cheer you on!

KAL membership can also be purchased through us here at EarthFaire. :-)

If you would like the clues to be saved in your Ravelry library, please include your Rav name with your order.

The Yarns

This shawl will be knit of fingering weight yarn and can be knit of any of the fingering weight yarn bases that The Unique Sheep works with.

Plus anyone who orders from us at Earth Faire will have a few additional options for yarn.

(a)  As we did for the last MKAL we can again offer you Sol or Luna.  This is the yarn base some of you used for The Thirteenth Moon.

Fiber-wise the yarn is 75% superwash Merino, 20% nylon, 5% Stellina.  The merino is springy and delicious, the nylon adds strength.  Stellina is a non-metal fiber. You will have either a silver-toned fiber (in Luna) or a goldtone version (in Sol).

We also have two other brand-new exclusive-to-EarthFaire fingering weight yarns you might be interested in getting your kit dyed in.

(b) Nimbus is a 100% Superwash Blue Faced Leicester (BFL) yarn.  Not quite as fine as merino though plenty soft enough for next-to-skin wear.  What it does have that merino doesn't is a lovely drape and even a shine.  A shawl of BFL will swing and sway as you walk.  And the scales of this wool, being shaped differently, reflect the light and gives quite a lovely look indeed.

(c) Leana (named after a silver and white moon dragon whose wings are flecked with silver and with a silver mane) is a 51/49 blend of cultivated silk/ merino (just a bit more silk than merino).  The best of both fibers, this has some of the memory/bounce from the merino with the beautiful shine that comes from silk.

The other fingering weight yarns are all listed and data gotten on The Unique Sheep's website.  Note that the price varies depending on your yarn preference. Please make sure to select the correct option for the yarn of your choice.  You will see any additions to the base price in the drop-down menus under the first picture on this page.

There is a great write-up by Kelly about many of these yarns here which you might find very helpful.

The Beads

Beads are optional.

We (here at EarthFaire) will continue to take orders for beads in these kits beyond Feb 24, at least for now and while there is time to get more beads in (this takes quite a few!).

You can do for no beads, some beads, or all the beads.  Set the drop-down menu as you would like.

Bead-wise you might opt to get approximately 500 of size 6/0 beads or 1000 size 6/0 beads for an amazing amount of bling.  (We will, of course, give you some extras in both cases.  At last count, you will need a bit less than that but we'll give you a bit more.)

(Usually I choose beads to mirror some aspect of the yarn colors.  If you would rather a striking contrast or have an idea of the color(s) you want, tell me and give me some idea if you can of what you envision.  Otherwise I will choose for you.)

The Colorways

Each kit is dyed to order (which is why it will take time) in the yarn and colorway of your choosing.

Now about colorways.

You can order through us any and all of the colorways that The Unique Sheep creates.

There are also a number which are Earth Faire exclusives which you can only get through us. Almost all are shown on these Flickr pages , though we are constantly working with Kelly to create new ones and those might be a bit late having their pictures taken. We list the Earth Faire signature colorways in the search box above.

And the photos on this page show some of the special ones as well as some of our new ones. Feel free to contact us if you would like another photo or more data or description on any of these.

If you want a colorway that you cannot find specifically listed on the Choices drop-down menu, simply select "Other (tell us!)" [it is there on the list near the bottom] and give me the data via the Comments section as you check out.

If you would like more on any of these colorways or even a photo or two, simply contact me and I will work with you.

1. Dragon Fire

2. Dragons' Dawn

3. Twilight

4. Mardi Gras

5. Pixie Dust

6. Dragon Scales

7. Big Sur Twilight

8. Van Gogh's Sunflowers

9. Impressionist Sunrise

23. Mermaid's Bouquet

24. Chocolate Roses

25. Windy Sea

26. Inwood

27. Roi Soleil

28. Prince John (note that this colorway is very close to how Pooh is depicted in many photos and would be perfect for this MKAL -- take a look at the next-to-last photo on this page)

29. A Walk By The Shore

30. Winter Dusk

31. Thunderhead

The next bunch of colors are plays on single hues, monochromatic gradiances:

32. Roi Soleil (a play on golds)

33.  Ice Queen (blues)

34. Elven Circle (greens)

35.King Oberon (purples)

36. Painting the Roses Red (earthy pinks; even though none of the hues are a true red, they are all variations on a rose tone and I love the Alice in Wonderland reference :-)

37. Faerie Godmother (brighter pinks)

The next few colorways are based on circles of color. Each circle has 12 possible skeinettes of color. You have a choice here.  You can choose any 6 consecutive colors to make your own personalized colorway if you would like a kit made up of six 50g skeins (as for any other colorway).

Or!  Kelly is also very willing to dye up full circles for these colorways. If you would like that, you would get twelve 25 gram skeins instead of six 50g skeins. The price would be the same. Just let us know via the Comments section as you check out. .

If you want a 6-skein set: you must do is choose the number to start with.  A number of the photos on this page show circles or color strips that are labeled by number. If you want, for example, to start with 10, then your set will have the skeins noted as 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3.

And if you want the full circle, tell us "full circle."

(We are showing pictures of the circles on this page just to make it a bit easier to select, plus a few others you might not be familiar with.)

38. Enchanted Garden (available as a full circle)

39. Magic Mirror (available as a full circle)

40. Treasure Chest (available as a full circle)

44. Blue Moon (available as a full circle)

45. Poison Apple (available as a full circle) (Remember the tale of Snow White and the magic poison apple that was green on one side and red on the other?  This is our newest in the Dark Side of Magic Series)

And some other newer "regular" ones with three brand-new ones listed at the end of the list:

46. Blue Dragon

47. The Dragon Awakes!

48. Magic Carpet

57. Nyx (another new one: lighter blues going deeper and richer until the last skein is navy with a whisper of black.)

58. Elphane was an olden-times name for the land of Faery and it seemed perfect for this other new one with its delicate hues.  Here a soft grey moves into aquas into lilacs.  A song of summer.

And a brand-new colorway, designed especially for this MKAL:

59.  Piglet (see last photo on this page)

All colorways will be assumed to be Gradiance sets, unless you tell us differently! Further data on can be found here about Gradiance sets .

And please feel free to contact us if you would like more data about any of these.
